So I got my Sei running again today (nothing more major than a lack of petrol haha) and drove her up and down the drive as she's been sitting for the last few weeks. After reversing back up the hill into her space, there was a great deal of smoke coming from the area in yellow below.

At first I thought it was an electrical problem because the smoke smelt like electrical smoke and I'd had to jump start her 20 mins prior.

I guess what I'm really asking is whether I should be thinking about changing the clutch now?

Cheers,
Thomas.

If the clutch is slipping in regular driving or the bite point is very high, then yeah. (though would adjust the cable first to see if it changed anything)

If not and the bite point isn't too high, wouldn't worry tbh. Reversing uphill is probably the easiest way to make a clutch burn, It probably took a hammering but if it's otherwise ok, feels nice and light to use etc then it's fine.

If it smells like smokey bacon, then it's the clutch. If it smells acrid/electrical then it could be oil or contamination on the plate. You may have a minor oil seal weep that normally doesn't worry the clutch because it's burnt off in use but which accumulated while it was sat... and of course you burnt it off all at once by reversing up hill.

If the clutch doesn't slip and the pedal isn't too heavy.. don't worry about it too much but I'd start budgeting for a new plate depending how it feels.
