So I went to drive into town today to notice my drivers wing mirror hanging off!!

Not too bad I thought...until I got closer to the car and saw this...

I think the only real damage is the driver's wing (obviously), the wing mirror and the driver's side front wheel...there's paint transfer on the door and front bumper but at the most would need a quick touch up spray.

Unfortunate since it's the first real problem I've had with the car.

i would hunt the driver down an torture him, ive got a wing mirror , an door if you need 1, different colour though, im in wigan

Well it's all going through the insurance, luckily the driver put his details under my wiper so it should be sorted soon. Just annoying that's all!

They better not write it off, it's only a front wing really. If they do write it off what are my options? Bear in mind it's not my insurance it's the bus companies.

Insurance company sometimes let you Buy it off them for scrap value. It will be a cat c write off so you will need a certificate to put it back on the road. At least, thats what happened with an astra i had

Shouldn't be a right-off.

I had a similar thing a year back, when some idiot drove into my wing. Pushed it right in, much worse than yours TBH and also damaged the alloy.

Got mine fixed under the insurance...not even a sniff of it being written off.

I seriously hope it doesn't get written off, I can't afford to buy it back or buy a new car (student) plus I love the hgt too much!!!

I hope its ok but the insurers take the cheapest option for them. Just as a marker, The market value is £1000, Repair estimate is £800, They give you £700 + the car. Just a rough figure, you don't fork out.

Sorry for my naivity i'm not 100% on how insurance procedures work. If they write it off do they give me cash for the car? And then I can buy it back off them for scrap value?

If so that could work out better for me going off the market value etc...I seriously doubt it would cost more than £200 to fix a drivers wing, only thing is there's damage to the wheel also, so there might be unseen damage to the steering/suspension etc.

Anyways, with no luck so far for a courtesy car (stupid weekends) i'm hoping to get it sorted tomorrow, will post updates as I go along as I don't want to get shafted!

Cheers for the input guys!

With a high level of confidence, that is a write off.

From an insurance point of view, they'll want to replace the front bumper, wing and door (as all affected). Might have to go on a jig as the wheel has been hit too. Way too much for a £500ish car.

If they do write it off, it will probs be a Cat C or D. As it's still effectively driveable.

Had a Pug 306 xsi before my HGT, and that had one whole side taken out.

Was given Cat C grade. Insurane company let me keep the car, plus gave me book value payout.

Ended up selling it on, due to HGT, so made abit extra.

IIRC, if it's Cat A then it has to be scrapped.

Cat B you have the option to buy it back.

Cat C you keep it, but have to get it safety checked before it goes back on the road.

Cat D same a Cat C, but no need for safety check.

Took my car to some garages today and it seems there's some suspension damage too, probably going to be written off I'm told. There's an engineer coming to assess the car to make sure any repair costs are right. I'm not holding my breath so I'm looking for a new hgt just in case...
