Technical Smells like petrol...

I get a strong smell of petrol, whether on choke or not and whether Scrappy is warm or not. It's stronger through the fresh air vents than through the heater vents.

Sniffing around, it seems to be coming from the bonnet area, but there are no obvious leaks that I can find around the carb.

Speed up the process by abandoning torch light and using a naked flame

Is the car running correctly as it has always done? If you take the airbox off is the underside/inside of it very "wet" with excess fuel? Also worth checking the filler pipe

I had a similar issue and it ended up being the hose from the pump to the carb. You could only see it leaking when the car was running and the air on was off.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It was confusing me because it was worst when the car was running normally. I traced it to a split at the bottom of the fuel flexi in the main fuel line to the fuel pump (8mm I/D if you need it). The split would only leak fuel when the engine was revved and off choke (and rotating forwards with the inertia).

Scrappy will get a new feed and return first thing in the morning.
