hey all.

been hinting at this for a while to my boss (GF's step dad) started working for him at the start of the year, a strange setup if i'm honest but it's a new business, things are moving on nicely and i now have my own patch so will need my own van (i used to use my primera sometimes when i was sent down the country) but me and the GF now share our punto and it isn't big enough, plus she used it for work too.

i'd have loved a brand new van all paid for, fuel expenses etc, but i reckon i'm getting the next best thing, he's buying the van, paying for the tax, mot, servicing and going halfers on my insurance, can't complain i don't think!

anyway, he's said around £4k, but it has to have less than 60k miles on and be under 5 years old for a 3rd party warranty thing he's taking out on it, i thought he was being a bit tight but a closer look on ebay proves you get a lot of van for your money!

looking for something doblo sized, i'd like to use it for a small motorcross bike too (honda CR85) at the weekend and would imagine it would go straight in.

the newer doblo's seem to have the 2.0 8v MJ engine in which sounds nice! was wondering what they were like on Bio diesel? the only manufacturer i know that condones bio is VW and i doubt i'll get one meeting my budget and criteria :(

oh, again i doubt i'll get one to meet my budget but did fiat do an auto/dual logic in any of them?

the £4k he said was excluding VAT too, not sure what he meant to be honest?

businesses don't pay vat :) on things that they use
Er, yes they do if they aren't VAT registered - don't generalise....

A VAT registered business would be able to buy the van and reclaim the Input VAT. A non VAT registered business would still be charged the VAT and the overall cost of the asset would be greater.

don't you have to be vat registered so you can sell? goods and services
Er, no you don't.

You can either voluntarily register or be forced to register if your turnover is greater than around £73k p.a. or so (the limits vary every year).

If every business had to register, it would be a nightmare ! What about small businesses, part-time sales, etc.

ah, cheers for clearing the VAT stuff up, so obviously that only counts if i get the van from a trader doesn't it? now i think about it i have seen a few list vans at a price but that price excluded the VAT.

as for the 'van, the thing i like about the doblo's is they're more like a car, it will be my daily drive too, it would be ideal to get a row of 3 detachable seats in it too :D

we're working down manchester this weekend so if we finnish early on the saturday we're going to have a look at some maybe get a drive too, probably wont be able to use bio diesel in it incase anything happened and the warranty wouldn't cover it, not worth my job!
