The Velcro underneath the OEM floor mats on our 500 seems no longer to be working. I can only assume this is because it has damaged the carpet so much when i have removed them to hoover them (giving it the carpet version of split ends) that the hooky bits of Velcro can no longer grab onto the carpet effectively.

Anyway, I wondered whether anyone else has experienced this and has done anything about it? Would it help to clip the carpet which has been damaged by the Velcro? I don't want to make it worse (or look worse) though so am a bit reluctant to bash around and end up giving the car a home made Brazilian....

The alternative seems to be some of the stuff that you can put under rugs to stop them moving. Has anyone tried using any of these? Any particular recommendations (as opposed to just seeing what is listed on eBay right now)?

Incidentally, I do not have the peg thing that can be screwed through the driver's side mat, but that would only be a partial solution anyway as as the same thing is happening with the passenger side and in the rear (ooh err).

Thanks in advance.

I bought some of that a long time ago in an attempt to cure a similar problem. It didn't work .

The Halfords Type 1 Advanced Fit carpet mats are just sufficiently oversize to clip under the plastic trim in the footwells - I've used them since buying the car new & they don't move about much. The car's own carpet is still good as new.

Anything with velcro on the back of it will shred the carpet, given time.

Same thing on our car... the carpet "split ends" as you say. Ours move a bit but don't slide about dangerously so not too worried. I just try to minimise the taking of the mats in and out of the car etc.

Eventually may need to do something more...
