Technical Slight kangarooing

115bhp, Active, 5 door, 52 reg. Is that info what you need? :D

Excellent, right just like in Shadey`s video, the location of the MAP sensor should be as it was in my old JTD below:

MAP_Sensor.jpg

Never mind the yellow connector plug as i dont remember mine having one too, follow the video and unhook the sensor to have a look and clean it out, this is the quickest and cheapest way to rule out the sensor (y)

The kangooing problem seems to have gone, it hasn't happened for about a week now :) Maybe that injector cleaner has shifted some dirt in the fuel system? Anyway all seems fine now (y) Also i've had a new drop link and suspension arm bush fitted on Sunday, no more banging! New tyre next week and then MOT time.

nice work mate. Don't forget to give it a good blasting from time to time to help shift some crap out of the system.

I will do (y) I had another go at the MAP but that bolt is very tight, however i've only got a normal handled hex key. Tomorrow i'll purchase a longer handled one and try again, i can't get much leverage with my one. Anyway, hopefully thats that. However i have noticed a flat spot in most of the gears now, not just around 2.5/3k revs. I think that could be down to either the MAP but more likely the EGR which i'm going to get cleaned out with my next service. The MAF is fine and i asked my mechanic to double check the pipe into the airbox/MAF, whatever he did last time - all ok there. I want to get everything sorted and checked before our holiday end of July :)

with the EGR, do you look in your rear view for plumes of black smoke? When my EGR needed sorting (soon after buying the car) I had flat spot then rush of power, eventually it was just slow full stop-rather like when the MAF goes-but black smoke would always billow out the exhaust.

Cleaning the EGR is easy though, and if you cant do your MAP before then, they can do it at the service because its perched above the EGR anyway.

I had a similar issue when trying to loosen my MAP, I just used an extended HEX like what you are buying, and a very careful tap with my 4lb lump hammer-you have to crack it loose but I literally needed one careful wallop with the hammer and that did it.

I am hoping that once you get the MAP clean, EGR cleaned/blanked/replaced your car will be like new. Fingers crossed eh? Mine was amazing when I did the work, and I get great MPG and power from it, little to no smoke on hard acceleration (this is why you need to blast it to get that crap out over a few hundred miles). Currently im on 46mpg around town. Filled up on Sunday £30 of the good stuff at Shell and went to Wakefield only-really pleased right now. If you're not getting that now, you have it to look forward to!

I've cleaned the MAP :slayer: My new long handled ball end hex keys made it alot easier. It was dirty and oily but not as caked up as i thought i.e. hole blocked, if thats possible? Anyway its all back together and i'm off out soon so i'll see if i can feel any difference.

I used electrical contact cleaner, was i right to spray it directly into the sensor and wipe to clean? If i've buggered it i'll buy another one :)

Phil

electrical contact cleaner yes, clean inside with a cotton bud until its no longer black. They don't cake up totally, but the oily residue inside is enough to baffle the sensor.

any better?

MAPs probably OK then, if it were faulty or on its way out I am fairly sure it would throw a code because it would be out of range.

Flat spot could still be the EGR, but also might be worth checking the boost control valve thingy near the battery under the lights-theres something in the help section about that.

I may have asked this, but when driving, and the flat spot occurring, are you getting gusts of black smoke on resume of power, or during the flat spot?

Ah yes, you did indeed ask me this but i didn't answer! I've not noticed any smoke but i'll have a look next time. Anyway i have to get a new tyre tomorrow and then hopefully get car MOT'ed Friday.

Quick question, is it normal for the car to ever so slightly judder if crawling along at low speed but in 2nd gear at around 2.5k+ revs? Also I did a 40ish mile round journey today on the motorway and no problems.

Not really no, but its not necessarily a fault either. Mine is fine in third at 1.5k revs at a crawl, just a tiny little bit of hunger for revs from the engine. Could still be the egr at 2.5k revs as your turbo will be wanting to work and engine trying to get fuel etc etc but the egr may creating a bottle neck.

Maybe....

Ah well, its not the kind of kangaroo/juddering that i have been experiencing. The best way of describing it, is the car wanted me to change up gear. Anyway like i said its been over a week now since it did it and i've done a mixture of driving.

(y)I wouldn't worry, it sounds like you are on the right track now and I suspect it will really smooth out once the problem is fully addressed.

My old Maverick used to be the same, struggled in lower gears until I did its egr and a couple of other things, after that it could trundle along at 10 mph in third nice and sweet.

My old Mazda MX6 on the other hand could trundle along at 10 mph in fourth gear smooth as you like-superb engine is those cars, I miss it.

Well one thing i'm not worried about is my MPG. I took my wife to Leeds today, 22ish miles up the M1/M62 - 68MPG (y) It even peaked 71MPG at one point but that was only after a few miles on my trip B :)

Thats one of the reasons why i don't want to get rid of this car.

this is a good sign. if your MPGs are good, then engine wise (including injectors) must be working correctly.

When my EGR and MAF were playing up, I still got decent MPG on a run, but much poorer on shorter runs. Once sorted, shorter runs are considerably better.
