Silly question..

is the tick over of a 1.6 very noisy.... cos my car after i heated it up it very loud still i always thought it would be dead silient but it aint... should i be worrying....

Try turning the engine off, its quieter that way.

What SORT of noise do you hear?

sounds like the tappets.... but i thought they adjusted to stop.... are the self adjusters or can they be put out of line... sort of gave her some stick earlier... and she was ticking before but my mind tells me she ticks more.... most prob ok

It's 16v and can cope with a thrape. Mine sounds tappety every so often, just be sure and keep the oil topped up and you'll be right.

16 valves, 16 tappets, lots of noise.

What grade oil are you using? 10W40 I hope.

yep helfords stuff... service soon.... so i think ill get them to do a major one and change everythhing including clutch and gearbos

Don't change the clutch unless you have to, its all too easy to damage the starter when doing it.

Does the noise go away if you press the clutch down?

the thrust bearing has gone or one of the bearing in the gearbox.... (that rattling sound i moaned about).... so i thought **** it ill get it all done.... 36000miles on clock and it has a bit of stick so i think clutch is going
