Hey all! My little 500R is having some strange issues with the turn signals. The lamps all work fine while the car is not running, but as soon as she's running, they don't work or will flash once or twice before cutting out. I've checked fuses and bulbs. Does anyone here have any clues on what may be causing this?

Possibly related could be that the starter turns really slow at cooler temperatures, but will work just fine with a booster pack connected. The battery is tested good.

Thanks!

Do you have a good earth? The car's body is the return path to the battery. The starter motor's earth is it's own body, which bolts to the engine. The engine has a strap that connects it to the body. At the other end, the battery's earth strap connects to the body too. If any of the joints are corroded, there will be resistance to ground. You can check each link with a multimeter.

On old Fiats it’s always the earths…There’s multiple smaller earth points all over the car, check the ones at and to the lamps first, then the ones near the fuse box and steering column. Just giving them a wiggle will identify a bad earth, then you can clean them off and refit.
The other issues with old cars, not just Fiat, is the build up of calcination on bulb sockets, a good clean can work wonders (not really but that’s what folk call it). The other issue is verdigris of the copper in the wiring, from where it’s exposed and into the insulation. The only way to deal with that is cut back to decent wire and rewire the connectors
