Hi All,

Just arrived with our Fiat Ducato on our holiday location. During our trip the orange/yellow indicator appeared in the dashboard with the notification that the rear right turn signal lamp has an issue. at the same time in the dashboard the indicators for the turn signal is flashing way faster then normal. Our car has a build in warning sound when driving backwards.
So what do we notice:

When the turn signal is on, also the warning sound is activate ( though not that loud as normal but soft).
Indicators are flashing rapidly
when pushing the break, also the warning sound is activate (though not that loud as normal but soft).
When opening or closing the car with remote control also the warning sound is activate (though not that loud as normal but soft).
left turn signal works as expected -- so thats ok
Right Turn signal does work, and blinks correctly BUT only at half the brightness !

What did i check:

Wire issue's - nothing detected
fitted new correct lightbulb - no improvement
disconnected the warning signal - no more beeps, but still get error message in dashboard + right rear turn signal blinks with half the brightness

I really hope that you can help me figure out what the issue could be.

Hello,

Looks like a short circuit. Is it a commercial van body with a standard rear light cluster?

I'd check the ground points, especially the one at the back near the light cluster and this part, I don't know how it is called in English:

Both front and the socket where you put the plug with the cables.

Try searching with 'ducato ground points', there is a diagram posted in the forum where are they located.

Hi,

Yes, it is a commecial van body with a standerd rear light. I will search and try to do a check on the grond point.

Will let you know

OK, found it :)

Ducato x250 ground points:

A001 main battery ground
C002 battery to engine ground
C003 battery to body ground
C010 front left ground
C012 ABS ground
C015 dashboard left ground
C016 A/C ground
C022 dashboard center ground
C030 / C031 rear light clusters ground
C045 fan ground

I've just added the descriptions for easier troubleshooting.

The x250 ground cables tend to rot in the inside (which is not visible), people add a second cable to have a better connectivity.
The ground point by the front left light cluster is one of the most problematic ones.

I'd check the ones at the back, the main ones and the ones that are responsible for the dashboard.

One more thing I forgot to mention: as the warning reversing sound uses the signal from the reversing light, I'd look for a short between the cable from the reversing light and the turning signal.
I was considering the possibility of a missing ground/earth connection at the light cluster, causing a backfeed to the other side of the vehicle. However I do not know whether the reversing sounder would operate with reversed polarity.

Hi all, took a while due to some needed free time 🙂

Checked the main and rear light unit grounds... They are all good.

Did an extra ground test on the rear light unit back plate... I was able to get rid of the error for a second so the assumtion that there could be a faulty ground was spot on.

Then i looked at the ground plate and the plug. Turns out the back plate pin for the ground has a little offset with the rest of the pins. On top of that the ground connection on the plug was way wider then it should be... .

For the time being i bent the metal clamp inside the plug carefully back... Et voila problem solved (for now).

Think it is wise to put a new connectorplug+backplate in due to the mis alignment and plug issue.

So, turned out i was to quick with my tests... Indeed, right side turn signal works great, alarm sound is quit now...

BUT... Now i have a error signal on the left rear signal. When i use the left rear signal then the light is a littlebit less vibrant then the right side but also th backing light on th right side lits up a littlebit...

So, now i will check the left hand side also

Left side also cheked, littlebit of corrosion but also the ground connection was to 'loose'.

Fixed that the same way as the right side.

Now all warnings are gone and my lights work again

Thanks for all your information, really helped.

Regards,
