General should I buy or not

i have the chance to buy a ulysee r reg and i am getting mixed reviews. Car low mileage - 65K does this mean new timing belt? Diesel td s . Any other costs soon that i should be aware of? Car looks good, I will be transfering children in it so looking for a reliable car. Any advice gratefully received

I've got an "R' reg 2.0S. It's good. I'd say if the one you're looking at has been well cared for, as much as you can tell (and the low mileage is a bonus) and doesn't display any obvious faults then go for it. Don't pay too much though, it's a buyer's market. Unless you have absolute proof, I'd get the belt done as a matter of course (why take the risk?).

As for pre-purchase checks: Others on here more au fait with the TD will tell you more what to look for but here's one: Once the engine's thoroughly warmed up, after the fans have kicked in, turn it off and check the radiator - is it hot all over or are there significant cold patches? If so then over-heating might be (or might have been) a problem and we all know what that does to a TD.
