Highjacked the missus' account seeing as I am rebuilding her Punto :)

Can you order the shims in increments of 0.01mm or do they only go up in 0.05mm. i.e. Can you get a 4.22mm shim or would I have to make do with a 4.20 or 4.25mm.

Don't want to look a pleb when asking Fiat :)

Also. When pushing the cam followers down to get the shims out, how much force are we talking. I don't want to over do it and damage it!

Thanks

The shims are available from Fiat in increments of 0.05mm from 3.20mm to 4.70mm.

The adjustment tolerance is usually + or - 0.05mm so you won't need any inbetween sizes.

You need to push the buckets down enough to get the shims in and out, so the maximum will be 4.70mm plus about 2mm for the recess in the top of the bucket. It doesn't require much force, a wide tipped bent screwdriver pushed between the back of the cam lobe and top of the old shim will do. I use an old bicycle tyre lever. You will also need something to hold the bucket down whilst removing and refitting the shim.

Disregard the lower tool in this picture, that's for a JTD engine.
