I have recently brought a new bravo 80sx and want to know about servicing it.
The car has just done 1000 miles and I am not sure at what point I should get it looked at to check if all is well.

It's in the service book.

The first service is a 1000 miler and should be free. It's just a oil change service.
Then they are at 12,000 mile (or 12 month) intervals. Best to have it serviced at a dealer during the warranty period then please yourself.

Fiat told me....

I spoke to fiat who told me that the 1000 miles in not needed and the only service is the 12,000 mile check,

Service

Fiat's do not now need a 1000 mile service so don't worry. 12000 miles is correct. And in my opinion a FSH for any vehicle doesn't make a dot of difference. When it comes to sell them on they never check and even if they ask they never view it NEVER. This includes ALFA dealers and i reckon when the new buyer comes along they just get a new Service book fully stamped up by themselves.Personally though I always do have a proper FIAT/Alfa service for convenience and obviously with new cars its needed for warranty.

Servicing

Guys

my 1996 1.4sx is due a service and I'm planning to take it to my local Halfords garage for a service. Does anyone have any experience of them?

Also :
-does anyone know what mileage the gearbox oil should be changed at?
-All this talk of cambelts is worrying me. Is there any way to check the condition of the belt to determine whether there is a risk of it snapping.

thanks in adavance

Servicing and cambelts

The problem with the cambelt isn't the belt itself but the cambelt tensioner. A pulley designed to well.. keep the belt tensioned so it doesn't come off. The bearings on the pulley go prematurely and the belt comes off. Wrecks the engine and valves as they go out of sync and can take other components with it as it flies off. So just looking at the belt (although still recommended) won't help.
I too checked Halfords for their capabilities and they quoted they could do clutch changes and cambelt changes (just regular ones, not when the engine is wrecked after cambelt tensioner failure) for good prices. Haven't needed them yet though.
