Does anyone know the lifespan of cam belts for the mk1 1.1 punto? i got my punto a year ago with a low 19000 miles on the clock (not bad for a ten yr old car) its now at 36000, i put 17000 miles on in just over a year, although i just checked the service history and the only service it received was its initial service before the car was sold.

It should be done at the major 72000 mile service IIRC. Personally i'd get it done now just for peace of mind. So has it not been serviced since you bought it?? :?

well i have only had it a year, and because it wasnt used much before i got it, when i started putting miles on i had to replace alot of the common punto problem bits anyway, its had both engine and gearbox oil changes and various bit done by me and my dad but no proper dealer service since i got it

I do most the work on mine myself. No way taking my baby to a dealers to get played with by some work experience gimp and charged through the roof. You might aswell change it yourself, easy enough to do. But would do it now, then you can forget about it for a while with some piece of mind.

hmmmmmmm cam belts ....... oh yeah mine snaped bloody expensive that ....... oh well neva mind gave me the chance to play with things .............. yeah change the belt if it snaps its like pickin up the soap in jail....................... you will get shafted by the garage

think im gona put my car for a service wen it goes back on the raod as i rekon it needs 1....

The official recommendation is around the 70,000 mile mark. The Haynes manual reckons that 40,000 miles is more like it, especially if the car does lots of small trips. I've just changed the belt on my wifes '98 Punto Sporting, I must do a write up to post on the forums. It's not a diffcult job and a belt only costs 10 - 15 quid.
