Just had mt TA serviced, the sheet says they used Magnatec Prof C2 0W30, I had a look for it and am not sure it's right for the TA.

Any opinions/views welcome.

Thanks

Well hopefully I can answer my own question.

I just spoke to the dealer that did the service, they said that Castrol have now produced an oil with the same spec as the Selenia Digitek C2 that is recommended by Fiat for the TA.
They also said that Fiat are in the process of changing to Castrol oils for this application.

Any feedback?

Most people on here tend to stick to the Selenia. I couldn't get it here so I'm using Castrol's equivalent. Done just over 7000kms with about 150-200ml burn, from what I've read others that have used Castrol have noticed burn as well. I'll be putting it in next service as I bought twelve litres lol.

Euro 5 engines until about 2015: 5W40 C3

Euro 6 engines: synthetic 0W30 C2

I'm not aware that Castrol makes an suitable oil for the Euro 6 engines, and it's most unlikely that Fiat is going to change to Castrol instead of Selenia.

In fact, Castrol Edge does have a 5W40 oil for the Euro 5 engines, but it's part synthetic, hydrocrack oil.

As the Selenia brand name is owned by Petronas:

Selenia Digitek Pure Energy 0W30 C2= Petronas Syntium 7000E 0W30 C2, the later available f.i. at Halfords....

Pricy oil but available at any official Fiat/Alfa/Lancia/Iveco/Mopar dealer worldwide.

I know that I should use Selenia, I have some already for topping up, I have contacted Castrol to see what they say.

Is there a Fiat contact I could use to ask them ?

If I use the castrol website oil selector page it says "Unfortunately we cannot determine a suitable product for your vehicle".

Nothing is simple in life.

Simple it is.
Castrol doesn't have the correct oil for the sensitive Euro 6 MultiAir and TwinAir units...
Petronas does, either Selenia ( branded for Fiat and Alfa dealers) or their own label, available at most partshops..

Don't waste your time with crook snake Selenia oil sold at billionaire prices. As long as the oil is in spec fully synth, you are fine.

I used Castrol Magnatec before and it was awful with high burn, now with Aral 5w-40 and its amazing, hardly any burn at all and amazing fuel consumption better than ever! (mind you i have a 1.4).

If you have an Euro 5 engine, and the Aral oil is C3 specs, you're fine.
It will ruin an Euro 6 1,4 MultiAir/TwinAir engine for sure!
( and will void any warranty)

Again, if Selenia is to expensive, or not available, you can use same specs Petronas oil, it is excactely the same, coming from the excact same scourse.

Btw, Castrol Magnatec is NOT fully synthetic, it's a hydrocrack ( or part synthetic) oil....

I'm running the magnatec 5w40, which isn't fiat spec approved just "meets" spec. I service regularly myself, so should run through the stuff I've bought in 12 months or so then I'll pick up a proper full synthetic oil. On a plus note 150-200ml oil burn is nothing compared to the old Mitsubishi Pajero 2.6l four banger I had in my teens, that burnt through more oil then fuel.

If it's used in an Euro 5 engine, you'll probably fine...
Remember the MultiAir and TwinAir units are VERY sensitive for the correct oil!

So it looks like the dealer has used the wrong oil.
I'll contact Fiat and see what they say.

Got a response from Castrol.
They do not make an oil with the spec needed for the euro6 twin air turbo.
I forwarded the info to the dealer and am waiting for a response.
The correct spec 955535-GS1
The castrol spec they have used 955535-S1

This is now resolved, the dealer has offered to change the oil for Selenia, I assume they will do the filter too.
Should the other stuff be flushed out?

I assumed they would have used Selenia to start with, if I had known they were going to use something else I would have insisted on the right stuff.

Makes me wonder how many others they have done.............

Almost all MultiAir and TwinAir units fail, due to incorrect oil, so I wouldn't take any risk here.
I'm a Castrol guy all my life, but since we own a 2016, Euro 6 Giulietta 1,4 Turbo MA, I use Selenia, or it's Petronas equivalent.
But ONLY in this car, my other cars and bikes are serviced with Castrol...
Just done 250000mls in my 2004 Alfa GT jtd with Castrol, and still going strong...!!
