My 500 will have the blue&me system. I'm just about to buy an ipod, but am unsure about how it will work with B&M as i hear it doesnt play AAC, i.e itunes music files!?

I know everything i import from CD can be imported as MP3 and transferred to ipod as an MP3, and be played fine using B&M.

So what happens about music i buy via itunes which will be aac? Can i not play them in any way thru B&Me????

Many Thanks

I haven't tried obviously, all my music is on .mp3, but here's a quote from an on-line manual;

I understand there are ways to convert files to .mp3 but I have no experience of such. 🙃

By far the easiest way to play music via Blue&Me is to transcode it to .mp3 and put it onto a USB stick. This gives you the ability to use the steering wheel buttons for track selection and if you're crafty about how you tag the music, a reasonable amount of control.

Blue&Me is 15+ yr old technology; very limited in its functionality, and probably only useful if you use it in exactly the way it was designed to be used.

If that's not sufficient for your needs, I'd suggest replacing the head unit would be a better option than trying to work around its limitations.

I don't recommend trying to play music directly from an iPhone; there are workarounds, but you also need to bear in mind the strict UK laws regarding mobile phone use while driving, A recently qualified driver could lose their licence this way just by selecting a track whilst on the move.

Easy enough provided the files aren't encrypted.

My personal recommendation would be foobar2000 There's something of a learning curve, but the functionality can't be beaten, and it's free.

How old is your 500? Early models needed a iPod adapter to work, later models could plug in directly by cable.

My 2011 model car had blue and me 2 which allowed direct cable connection and this worked fine playing both from an iPod and iPhone by direct cable connection

I believe the file format requirements being thrown about relate to if you put files on a USB stick

I don't know if the law is the same in the OP's US but here in Oz it's illegal to even touch your phone whilst in control of a motor vehicle - indeed probationary drivers are not even permitted to have one in the car! However I'm not sure if that includes ipods. 🙃
