Serpentine belt was super squeaking and turned the car off after passing a huge puddle.
Now it’s ok. Guess it’s on its way out ?

Never mind was the AC in the end the belt was fine :)
Ah, multi V serpentine belts wear? Well, your's was Ok, but they are a bit of a different animal compared to the old traditional V shaped belts. A lot of the friction theory still applies but the way you check them has changed a lot. Traditionally if a V belt wore enough to bottom out in the pulley then It wouldn't be able to apply, or take, drive to/from that pulley. This is because these belts drive on their sidewalls due to the way the belt "wedges" itself into the V of the pulley. Multi V belts drive in much the same way, but because the ribs are small it's more difficult to see with the Mk1 eyeball when it's worn. The belt companies seem to be issuing simple gauges to check them with but I haven't seen any for sale yet. The important thing to remember is that, like the old single V belts, these multi V belts drive on the sides of the multiple V grooves and that internal cracking is not necessarily a good yardstick to assess them by. Yes, a cracked one will very likely be at the end of it's life, but it's quite conceivable you'll see one with no cracks but the side of the Vs have worn so that they aren't gripping the pulleys.

I think, now we know what we're looking for, you could probably see if a belt was worn by eye. It's pretty clear in the video.

I used to have a lot of belt squeal/noise on my ford street ka all the different sprays and lotions failed to stop it!
I solved it by purchasing and artists hb graphite stick and letting it rub on the inside run of the belt with the engine running ( gloves etc mind your fingers im not responsible etc etc) this coated the run with graphite powder which is a dry lubricant stops the noise but does not attach dirt and debris!
But theres no substitute for a new flexible belt!
