If the heat shiled is taken off from over the back box, does anyone reckon it'll have any detrimantal effect on the underbody or underseal?

I ask becasuse the mountings have corroded through and I cant be arsed to take the exhaust off to re-screw the shiled back on.

Sensible answers only please, gentleman.

well, i always assumed they were there for a reason so for a few hours work is it really worth the possible grief? Thats my way of looking at it!

Re: Re: Serious question

I thought that too Al, I'm just lazy if the truth be known.

Re: Re: Serious question

Dunno take it off and find out for us then at least we will no if it is safe or not!

punto

ran my wifes punto mrk 1 without the shield for a while a few years back with no probs, but reckon the HGT creates a whole lot more heat, so prob safest to spend the time putting it back on. Lot less hassle than skin grafts if it ctaches fire with you in it!!!

cheers

Re: punto

surely you could do it without taking the exhaust off? all you need are a couple of good fixings. I don't know what it looks like under the car but there must be a way!

Re: Re: punto

You can be the guinea pig Roger, Remove it for us and if your car melts or ignites we then know it was a bad bad idea....

Thanks in advance!

Re: Re: Re: Re: punto

just proves how nice the people on this forum are when someone like you who has been a ****** now for the last 2 weeks can still come here and ask a question ad get answers and not abuse

and how you have the nerve to ask is beyond me

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: punto

Come on now people..!

I know he came on with some (okay alot) of slaggin off and moaning, but this is a serious post, and we should help him out.

Maybe, he will give us a bit more respect in the future.

After all, he could have signed in under a different name and asked the question....At least he had the guts to stick with his original name.

I agree with most, it's gotta be there for a reason, so i would take the time and get it done...after all if it is needed and you dont get it done, you will be feeling a liitle sheepish when your car catches fire.

Roger,

Suggest you attempt to fix this problem. I'm not sure why Tom hasn't stepped in to say so, but the Heat Shield (clue 1) is fairly critical for shielding heat away from your fuel tank...i say again fuel tank. This works in the same way as the exhaust manifold heat shield which protects many electrical points in the back of the engine bay from getting fried when there is no air flow to disperse the heat.

Re: Re: Serious question

I suggest that you tell Alan to put it back on his Wife's Punto then.

Strangely enough, the local exhuast specialist confirmed that it was far enough away not to do any harm and recommended taking in off. Bearing your advice in mind, you can rest easy by knowing that it is firmly screwed back in place. That is. FIRMLY screwed in place. To PROTECT anything from excess HEAT. That is HEAT.

Thank you for your kind words to safe guard my well being. THANK YOU. That is GRATIFICATION.

It works both ways, Marko. That's A TWO WAY thing.

Re: Re: Re: Serious question

my wife hasn't got a punto, infact i haven't got a wife! 8-/

lol.

Sorry if you meant another alan.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Serious question

you probably wont notice it untill the day where you get stuck in stationary traffic for an hour or so and then you may feel the floor getting a little hot and a smell starting to propogate through the car. I'd try to get it fixed.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Serious question

Cheers Matey,

Shield is fixed and screwed firmly back in place.
