General Selecta

Dear Friends,

Finally I bought The Uno Selecta, since I have many information and effort, specially from Cooper. I really enjoy driving this car.

There is 2 problem I should care. Firstly is "time lag" if I kick accelerator pedal. this is only when start moving the car. I think this can be solved by setting throttle link and cable near carb/inj.

secondly is a "jerk" in 2000 rpm. It's like no fuel injected into the engine. I think this is caused by bad sensor, which I don't know what sensor it is. Could anybody help ?

Best Regards,

Hendro. N

Dear Mr Hendro
Congratulations for your new car purchase. Sorry, I experienced bad computer problems, my 3 computers have been virused, calling for heavy remedies (C:/format!), it was impossible to answer earlier to your post
The Selecta is very pleasant to drive, the CVT is the smoothest I met. Again, the Selecta is NOT a sports car, it's not recommended to kick the throttle unless in emergency cases as like as fast overtaking. My Selecta is not an "overtaker", but on french motorways, where the speed is limited to 130 kph, a good cruise speed may be kept.
I recommend a French oil additive compound, distributed under "Mecacyl" appellation. This is a 100 cc small bottle containing an expensive blue coloured fluid to be added to the motor oil at draining. I done this, the engine surprisingly smoked for some miles and finally became very smooth.
My car is near to 170,000 km, the inside of head visible from oil fill orifice is clean near as new, no foamy deposit, nor sludge. If no crazy driver does not hit my car, I may hope drive it over 300,000 km without major problem. I replaced two years ago a noisy water pump, the coolant was clean, whitout rust.
Next week, I will travel over 2,000 km throughout France, the main of overhaul will consist in spark plugs replacement and the distributor cap and rotor (badly burnt).
I'm sorry, the workshop manual I have, does not give any information about the injection system, my manual (French) treating only the carb versions. You may search on this forum a .pdf Haynes Autobook workshop manual (to be downloaded). Unfortunely, this manual is truncated, but useful informations are stated, concerning engine and electricals.
About the jerky operation @ 2,000 rpm, please check oil level of the gearbox. This should be checked whilst engine idling, gear lever set on "N" or "P". Refilling is to be done with red ATF oil.
If the car has covered a somewhat high mileage, it's advisable to replace a special oil filter, every 40,000 kms. This needs the removal of the lower sump of the CVT unit, and oil refilling. If you need, I may send a digital photo of this component.
There is also an adjustment of the governor cable. You may customize this adjustment. Starting from standard, if you release the setting, the car will run smoother, but with reduced acceleration; if adjusted tighter, better acceleration, but more mechanical wear and higher fuel consumption.
Happy to have news from you
Best regards

Hello Enzo
I searched on the forum and I found a link that is http://www.itp.bg/stephan . This link opens access to a .pdf version of the Haynes Autobook in English. Unfortunately the chapters 5, 6 and 7 are missing (concerning clutch, gearbox, automatic transmission
and driveshafts.
However, there are many informations about engines, brakes, suspension and plenty of electrical wiring diagrams, very useful in case of electric problem

Dear Cooper and all Uno Lovers,

What a serious damage, till you had to format your HDD. Don't forget to update your virus data.

I will follow your advice for driving, to avoid damage on Belt.

However, could you tell me The Oil Additive to put on the Engine Oil ? I would be very grateful if you could send digital photo of it, as well as Oil Filter you mentioned.

For the time beeing, my Uno Selecta use TUTELA ATF Oil, which is quite expensive here. I will pay more attention to check and refill regularly.

Another interesting matter you mentioned was adjusting governor cable. Could you more specificly describe how to adjust it ? Is it we usually call kickdown cable ?

By the way, thank you for your enthusiastic answer, and have a nice journey.

Best regards,

Hendro. N

first of all, I am new ini this forum.
Hi every body, How is life .....
I bought -a ex-used- Uno Selecta - CVT - 2 month ago. it was in a bad conditions.. luckyly I join the indofiat milist, now it is already in better shape.

Some unsatisfactory still keep me repairing my car with my mechanic (he used to work in a fiat garace).
one thing that he still not able to set the kickback of the matic transmission.
when the car's RPM is bellow 2,000, and you pull up your foot on the accelleration pedal, it just like you kick the break pedal (which I did not) and
when the car's RPM in 2,000 and the speed around 20 Km/h, the car gone crazy:devil:, we are shaking inside, just like the fuel is interupted in a way that the car is go and stop, go, stop.
My mechanic said that the 'kick back' setting. next saturday we are going to re adjust the setting.

Do you guys have any experience in adjusting this 'Kick Back' ?

Thanks you all.

Awing

Hi and welcome to Fiat Forum (y).

Life is good for me thanks :).

I can’t say I’ve ever been in an Uno Selecta, never mind driven one, so I don’t know what to expect .

Anyway, I have found some info in the Porter manual for you. Hope it helps :D
