Im trying to fit a new exhaust to my car- but it just doesn't get the picture..............

The intermediate to backbox joint has seized, as it appears as it hasnt been moved since the car was new- 10 years ago!!

I managed to remove the exhaust clamp that should hold the system together after a long arguement and me showing it the wrong side of a hacksaw, but still the fookin' joint is still stuck fast even after a huge amount of twisting in futile attempts to free it.

It appears that it has effectively rusted itself together. As it is a slip fit- a bit with a split goes over another peice and they are held together by compression, I have tried to flare the split but to no avail.

Any ideas on how I could free it....even removing the rust on the joint may help....chemicals are greatly appreciated

That is an option, nut the joint in question is barely inches from the fuel tank, so flying sparks may be a bit hazardous!!:D

you gotta get a flathead screwdriving inside the joints and 'peel' it off. I had to do this when my backbox fell off (while i was doing 70! [:0]) i had to twist it aswell, so try that.

True, true - you use something as a shield - an old biscuit tin or whatever. If your fuel tank leaks though, maybe take the whole thing off from the cat and do it on the floor.

Alternatively, bite the bullet and pay an exhaust place to fit it, shouldn't cost more than £20.

did this happen when you tried to fit ma supersprint box? I thought the sleeve for the 899cc wouldv'e been a bugger like

The sleeve took 3 days to remove, and cost me 3 badly bruised knuckles. The bugger came out in the end though!!

Unlucky, I gave it 2 hours, lots of elbow grease and so much plusgas (dismantling lube) it could kill things........got bored and went to consulte a mate, spoke to a garage on the way, charged £5 incl installing the new one! Bonzer. So I now have a nice noisy Group N box on my Cinq!
