can anyone help ive just been given a 2001 seicento and it wont start i was told it was an immobiliser fault but after getting the car home im not so sure when you put the ignition on the key light goes out as it should so i dont think its an alarm/ immobiliser fault the car turns over but wont fire there is no spark. It did have an after market alarm fitted but this is now disconected. Any ideas thanks

ive fit the sensor and still no joy the fault code stored is p0335 engine speed sensor
and still no spark any more ideas thanks

p0335 is for the crank sensor, which makes it even more likely to be the problem.

did you fit a new one or a second hand one?

does the tachometer show any reading when you crank the engine?

it was a new one, and it does not have a tacho i have an earth at the sensor but no lives do you know which fuse or relay powers it and could it be an ecu fault thanks

the ecu powers it (5v signal i think), when you switch ignition on there should be 5v on one of the wires (i assume you have 3 wires on its connector). if you dont get the 5v signal it means the ecu is faulty or the wire betwen ecu and sensor is damaged.

fingers crossed its the wire and not the ecu.

just checked it ive got 8.5v on the yellow wire and 1.4v on the green and the black been earth does this sound about right

Check the air gap between the sensor head and the timing wheel.

But I suspect your aftermarket alarm involved fitting a relay somewhere in the ignition circuit. Removing the alarm possibly meant that the circuit is never completed.

You could check that power is getting to the coil packs. If it isn't, your quickest option may be to call an auto electrician.

thanks ive just had the ecu tested and its fine i will reconnect the alarm and fit a genuine crank sensor instead of a cheap one i fit and see what happens
