Hey all,

Working on wee ICE install for my new Sei and was looking for a bit of feedback/suggestions before I go splurging my cash.

Currently the car is as I bought it - running a Sony XR-C5300R cassette HU through the standard fronts and I'm looking to build a tight sounding but not massively loud system for my listening pleasure. Given that, as with all things, I'm on a budget I'm probably going to run through it in phases to coincide with my monthly paypoke.

For all that the HU is a cassette unit, it's not a bad little unit and I figure I can base my system around it and upgrade to a shiny new CDX-R3300 towards the end of the project when cash is a bit free-er.

Phase 1 - Frontage
Upgrade the standard fronts & stick in a CD-changer.

Fronts - Not entirely sure which fronts to get, given that they're only likkle 10cm & I don't want to build custom door mounts (yet). I had been looking at KFC-PSR401s (Kenwood Dual Mags) in the standard holes, but I was wondering what fronts some of you guys & gals have had success with? I will end up having a listen in my local audio shop, but I'm looking for ideas as to where to look.

Changer - Mount either a Sony CDX-T69 or CDX-656 into a custom build in the passenger side dash, so that it's nicely tucked away from prying eyes and not taking up too much space in the boot. Currently which changer depends on if I can source a spare lower shelf to chop up for the T69, or even better site a 656 in a passenger side airbag mount (as per below below pic).

That should give me some decent tunes to be getting on with.

Phase 2 - Bass
Add some discreet bass to the teeny rear of my car without sacrificing my boot.

I'll be dropping a 10" into a nearside 10" sub box from autoacoustics.com, complete with protective grill so my luggage doesn't bash the cone of my new sub to pieces. Current front runner is a JL10W0, which seems to match up the cubic footage of the box pretty well.

Amp-wise, I'll be mounting it in on a custom mount under the driver side rear parcel shelf bracket but I'm a little unsure as to which amp. My current & future HUs both have an ouptut of 4x 50W and I was trying to figure out if it would suffice to run my fronts from the HU & just run a mono amp for the sub, or to get a multichannel amp to run the whole lot? Any advice out there?

Along with some sound-deadening, this should provide a nice little system that'll meet my requirement.

Phase 3 - Musical Nirvana (?)
Bask in the new musical heaven that will be my car, and eventually drop in a lovely new CDX-R3300 to run the system! (Oh and some alarm-sized security as well).

So, whad'ya reckon? Any suggestions or help with my questions would be muchly appreciated!

try that for starters, it my install in my sei, not completly finished yet but near enough.

i have kenwoods in the front, i aint got a clue wot the model number is, buts there a blue cone with tweeters, they aint the best but will do as i got loads of other speakers in the car.

your plans sound good, as for amps depends on what speakers u get and how many u would be running

Funnily enough I have a Sony R3300 in my Seicento Sporting! Got it quite cheap, I'll find out the website for you. £115 it was, and it works a treat! Yeah, those front speakers are a devil! Luckily the Sony 10cm coaxial speakers I bought fitted first time. I think its deep enough for most speakers. You'll have to cut a couple of the tags off as theres only two screws to hold the speaker on. It fitted alright, but the sound gets a bit rattly at loud volumes due to the housing. I'm planning to have larger Sony components put in, with the mid-ranges hopefully put into a custom-made enclosure where the original front speakers go and tweeters nearby. But thats a while off yet. I've also got a 10" Sony pentagon sub in a box hogging the middle of the boot and a Sony amplifier next to it. I've screwed both of these to a piece of MDF which I cut to the size of the boot. Bit of a devil getting to the spare wheel but its possible. Its definatly good to have the sub box secured either by screws or industrial strength velcro (yes, really!), the sub will sound much better with a lot less unwanted rattling. Hope I've helped u out! Email me sometime with how you get on.

By the way, Sony R3300 cost £115, the subwoofer/box/amplifier/wiring cost £120 and the front speakers cost £40!!!!! www.cel-direct.com or .co.uk i think it was. So you can afford to have a good install!
