race 1 mile run
seat leon 1.8 t 20v cupra (225) vs fiat bravo 155 hgt.
what would be the result?

Don't need to be Einstein to figure that one out :)

Marea Weekend 1.8 16v 115 ELX

This would depend on if the cars are already moving.

Don't forget the Cupra R still has to wine up the turbo before the 223bhp kicks in.

If the cupra R driver could keep the revs high enough to keep the turbo spooling then yes the cupra R would leave the HGT standing.

If how ever he doesn't keep the turbo spooling (ie revs high enough, or slips with the gear change)then the driver would get a negative effect so the car would slow down till the turbo spooled up again. If this happened then the HGT would probably get the lead and could possibly win and that it possibly but not probably.

I sometimes got this with my old RS Turbo. Its like somebody slamming brakes on hard for a couple of seconds till it spools back up again. Not nice especially if racing :(

Cars beating other cars don't just go on BHP, The also go on torque plus the driver.

True, but the HGT aint got no torque.

Id hope the cupra kick the hgts ass as thats what im going to get next when i sell my hgt

I think it would be a close call. If its from a standing start then you really have to get the hgt right or you will be chasing all the time. I have driven the audi tt 225( same engine as cupra) and i wasn't inpressed, nice surge at 3k to 4.5k then it tails off, where as the HGT starts to go at 4.5k. When we road test cars at work we have this run its about 1/4 mile, and at the same point the tt is about 3mph faster then mine. If it was from like 40 -70 the cupra would be faster.

my mum has the cupra and it flies, never been in a hgt but the first 2 gears are phoneminal. but it might b a lil heavier as they r massive but gd luck anyways.

It helps that the TT weighs a good half ton more then the Bravo - good old german over-engineering.

A 225BHP Cupra R would have no probs what so ever beating a HGT away. BHP isnt everything if you are talking about a 70bhp difference between 2 cars that have say 400BHP+, but with the sort of BHP we are talking in 2 cars that are simular weight then you would have to be a pretty crap driver not to walk all over the HGT.

you can't say what it the cupr messes up a gear, because what if the hgt driver does the same.

modern turbo cars are no where near as bad as older turbo's for turbo lag etc.

you'd easily pull away on boost and keep positive boost for the whole quarter mile.

Well if you miss a gear you miss a gear!! Thats like saying what if you get a puncture, what if your engine explodes, what if you keel over and die from a heart attack half way through the run. If your really that lame and you burn out your clutch on the line then wheelspin for 100metres then spin the car 360 then miss several gear changes then you could lose the race even if you was driving a Ferrari Enzo etc..

If theres 2 adequate drivers that both manage adequate starts then Cupra wins hands down. .

Why do people always miss read my posts.

I said, that it MAY be possible for the HGT to win under certain circumstances arising. I did not not say that these would arise but it could happen.

I doubt very much it would but anything is possible.

Also turbo lag is turbo lag. Modern cars get it just a much it just that other areas of the engine are better equiped to deal with it.

Also most older turbo cars have been modded some way or another to the engine to increase the horse. More horses more lag.

A HGT could maybe win in a situation where the Cupra R breaks down due to sabatage undertaken by a unsportsman like HGT owner.

Only messing with you, bored at work see.

I bored too. :)

No really though, there is a small chance.

It may be about 0.001% but it is there ;)

How I would love to get my hands on a Cupra R. Pop the tyres, smash the windows dent and scratch the paintwork.

J/K, would love one though. One of my fav cars.

Yeh dito! Think they look gorgeous, thats maybe why im defending it so much hehe. I would have one in black or that gun metal colour they do. Dunno what the wheels on them are (you know the biggys, 18inch or something) but they are just pure horny love you long time hot.

I think as you asked the question you need help big time. It is a no brainer. The VW 1.8T engine is far better engine than the Fiat HGT engine. For a start the std internals are good for about 340bhp before you need to go mad uprating stuff. The Ibiza Cupra R is quicker as my neighbour took me for a ride in his new one and I tell you it is rrrapid. Before I knew it we had sailed past the 100 mark without a hint of fuss. Lucky as the roads are long, straight and empty where we live. You can tell how good a car is when the owners spend their whole time dreaming of better cars.......

Well said Mr Anonymous - I agree entirely.

With regard to the contributory factors in "racing", I have to disagree. Providing both cars have reasonable steering, breaks and handling - brute horse power wins every time.

By the way, I am not a fan of The Leon Cupra.
