Hi, I scuffed someones bumper recently (whoops)

The sort of thing a lesser man would have done and then driven away but I did the right thing and left my details.

I was informed my by my insurance company that I would be able to pay the cost of the claim back and keep my no claims. I was expecting the cost of the repair to be £500-800~ which would sting but was doable. But upon ringing my company to sell how the claim is progressing they said they have paid out over £7000 already in higher car costs and have just authorised the repair shop to fix the damage.

Is this why insurance costs are so high? Because they get bad deals on hire cars? Or they needlessly give higher cars for extended periods to people who dont really need a higher car anyway?

The bumper was scuffed, they car was drivable I do not know how on earth they think they are justified in spending 7k on higher car costs, it sounds like they have had one since the day of the accident (mid may)

totally unreal.

they should have refused to pay if the other car was still legal to drive

:yeahthat:

I hit some £90k BMW coupe, scuffed the bumper, £1200 damage to the car and should have been 3 days to sort.

Other party went to BMW main dealer the next day, dropped his car off and got some porsche as a courtesy car at £550 a day to my insurers, he ended up having it almost a month iirc.

Anyways this dealer tried presenting a bill for about £12500 just for the courtesy car to my insurers. They told them to post office and said they'd pay 3 days worth of this courtesy car as the other party should still have been using his car while the bumper was on order as it was only stress marks to it that I caused.

This is ultimately the reason insurance is rising, not all to do with personal injury claims.

I'd be quizzing your insurance co as to just why the payout is so high myself. What was it you hit?

7k for a courtesy car, what the frig have the hired? has to be some sort of lambo or something

ISTR that there is a requirement to mitigate your losses and having a hire car for a couple of days while a bumper is replaced should no way reach 7K. Not even 1K.

It was a honda cv-r

I asked what they hired and they said it would an equivalent type vehicle.

Do you think I will be able to argue the toss and just pay for the damage ?

You can't argue the toss over the type of car they've been given if it was like for like, but could question the duration they've had it for if you wanted to.

Tbh personally I'd just take the hit at the amount it's looking like it'll cost you. You'll still need to declair the accident, you'll only keep your NCD, that's all (n)

How many years NCD we talking

My car got hit a month or two back cracked bumper no other damage, car was still drivable had a hire car for a whole 24hrs but given the robbing bastards at my local branch of enterprise I wouldn't put it past them to charge £7k for that car for 24hrs they were a bunch of money grabbing kids who seriously needed a lesson in customer service and well, talking to people.

It would be 2 years in October.

as a relatively young driver my insurance is silly anyway, was £700 for the first year and £500 for the second, Was hoping for less than 350 for the third but I reckon it will be more like £1200 :(

if I could pay the claim back even with a declared at fault accident the 2 years ncb should help a lot I think
