Please can anyone have a look at these symptoms and let me know what you think.

- Out of gear or in gear.
- Clutch pedal feels low down.
- makes a horrible screeching/whirring sound.
- sound stops when clutch depressed.

Noise intermittent (although my daughter manager to grab a recording of it on her iPod!).

Is that a clutch bearing?

Clutch bearing is a good start, although DMF is another possibility.

Could try a long rod (broom handle would do) and put one end on the bell-housing and the other end to your ear, move it around and determine where the noise is loudest, this helps to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from.
New clutch kit price isn't too bad, it's the labour involved in getting the damn thing on.
