Screech on start-up

Bravo 1.8HLX, 96N, 79000 miles.

When it hasn't been run for a day or so emits a screeching noise on start-up. Any idea what this could be? Full of oil etc. It had a cambelt, tensioner and a water pump about 5k miles ago. Must be alternator or power steering belt?

Also, anyone else experience phantom tape player running accompanied by a smell of burning? Thinking of just disconnecting the motor if I can get the unit apart.

Try tightening your alternator belt. It`s probably a bit slack. Pete.

common problem on fiats i'm afraid, check your drive belt tension by all means, but it's probably your starter motor. i've had 2 bravos and a coupe and they all suffered from this now and again, it could be dust from the clutch, or the thing is just worn out! if it's any reassurance, my current hgt has done this since i bought it at 40000 miles, and although it's got worse over time, it's still going strong and the car has now covered 95000 (in 18 months!!) depends how much it pisses you off.

same problem on mine..usually nif it hasnt been started form more than a day or if it is frosty then it squeals briefly!! no problems yet though.

Mine tends to squeal every time I start it and as mentioned above, has done since i bought it a year and 12,000 miles ago.

Had the same problem when i had mine left it for about 2month then when i had parked on the biggest hill i could find it wouldnt start..........Starter Motor sounds like, make sure you park facing downwards lol!

Quick tip for you remove the starter and clean it with some brake cleaner or petrol and lube the Starte bendix and shaft with some Silicone lube

my 99 115 30,000 mile hlx does this too nearly everytime i start it up!
