Anon, I fail to see your logic.
First of all can you show me some figures or the like on which you have based this:
"The car manufacturers had anticipated the scheme and have raised their prices by £1,500 - 2000 so you will in effect save nothing had the scheme not been introduced."
Admitedly, I'm a little sketchy on the details but I'm assuming that the dealers wouldn't be losing the £2k as it's a Government scheme and so be no need to bump up prices.
Also . . .
"Presumably those with an old banger are motoring on a very tight budget and whether you spend £12k or £10k on a brand new car which will lose you £3k as soon as you drive it off the forecourt is still £10k which many just don't have or can't justify."
Followed by:
"The scrappage scheme has no environmental considerations as an owner of an "old banger" say a Pug 106 could trade it in for a gas guzzling Range Rover or Jag."
The first paragraph sort of cancels out the second??
If this scheme was succesfull it could help to stabalise the economy. Think of it as a routine, if people get into it then more revenue is raised through taxes, more jobs created through production, less CO2 (****** I know lol) is produced and the final bonus is more cars on the roads are in better condition so hopefully less accidents and less fatalities. As a whole and looking at the bigger picture, it could work out rather well, more jobs and more money for the economy.
As said earlier though, I couldn't give a monkeys as it won't effect me lol.
