General ScanGauge II and 2.8jtd

I have a Ducato 2.8jtd 2006 (last of the Mk III model). Plugging in a ScanGaugeII to the diagnostic port (is it OBDII compliant???) near the steering wheel (RH side) gives a display and readings. But at least one reading is wrong: display RPM is 1/4 of actual. Any experience with this and how to fix?
