Is the lump in the punto HGT the same as a bravo 1.8?
1.8hlx puts out 113 horse
1.8HGT punto puts out 130 - so i'm told

My thinkin is the engine is mainly the same, but with different chip, head and manifold?

Am i right? And is there anything else...?

(i'm in search of power gains)

Newts

The punto shares its engine with the barchetta, not the bravo. It has a vatiable valve timing head and different type of ECU.

Re: Re: Same engine ???

1.8HGT Punto is a Turbocharged Engine.

If you put a Turbocharger on a 1.8 HLX Bravo engine I'd expect more than 130bhp tbh.

lol :)

Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

Since when does the 1.8 HGT has a turbocharger?
Not in DK at least!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

the 1.8 HGT Punto Engine is Turbocharged. Always has been. (well since they started proudcing it in '99?)

I think your thinking about the 1.8 'HGT' Bravo? It's called the HLX in this country.

Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

Sorry, but the Punto HGT is NOT turbocharged. Just a 1.8 16V with 130 bhp.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

As far as i know it only came turbocharged in the MK1 GT version, the 1.4 engine... the 1.8 MK2 HGT is not turbocharged at all... as far as i know

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

can somebody tell me where i find this turbocharger?
i've been looking all day!

just kiddin, no the punto hgt does not have a turbocharger.

i'm still gonna go for a quad turbo conversion though, it seems the only way to go. ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

I think you'll find that Ian is having a bit of a joke guys

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

holds his head in shame

LOL :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

the list of cars in max power says it is turbocharged though, the description says something about them not understanding why its a tad slower than the old punto gt.
i never bought the magazine it was my friends :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

Tom,

I thought the 1.8 16v was lifted straight out of the Bravo and put into the HGT Punto?

My mates 1.8 Marea is variably timed so is the Marea the same as the Punto, only the Bravo differing by not being variably timed???!!!!!

Confused? I am now.

Anyway, my HGT says VIS on the cam covers - "Variable Injection System"? If so, that woudl account for teh big power surge at 4500 rpm.

Go on........tell me it's basic knowledge!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

so far as i know, (which isnt far)
the VFD 1747cc engine was only ever used in,
the Coupe, the barchetta and the punto HGT.
no doubt someone will correct me.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

There does seem to be some confusion about the variable valve timing on the 1.8. some fiat books say it has it BUT the manual states nothing about it and looking at a stripped engine there is no sign of the variator found on the barch and the punto.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

Craig - Exactly.

I thought it was just me going mad, but I was sure I read it somewhere!

That's why I always thought the HGT Bravo was Turbocharged too (This was well before I had my 1.4)

Ian.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

I think the Coupe only ever had the 2.0 16v and the 2.0 20v, I'm not sure the 1.8 was used for that model.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Same engine ???

it was used in the coupe, don't argue.
;)
