The Fiat Tipo turbo diesel engine i have, can it run with out a turbo attached?.
I realize it will lack power etc but is there any problems that i will encounter?.
The reason i am asking is because when i fit this engine into the engine room the turbo and steering box will be fighting each other for space and it will be easier to remove the turbo.
Any help gratefully received.

Cheers all.
The reason why i am looking at running without a turbo (not saying that i will actually do it) is because when i fit the engine into my Niva, the turbo and steering box will clash.
I can move the steering box and fit solid axle (which is looking likely) to get round the problem.
At the moment i am looking at options, i thought about fitting a supercharger instead of a turbo which meets all my requirements but trying to find one cheap enough...
I assume these engines can run with a supercharger, the fuel pump is already set up for a turbos boost so i see no reason why the boost from a supercharger cant be used???.
So looking at the fuel pump issue, would no turbo mean the pump doesn't see boost and would supply the engine normally???.
I am aware there is a version of this engine that comes without turbo but i am using what i have.
I have included some pictures of the 2ltr twin cam in my Niva atm and you can see where the steering box sits, back towards the firewall and a picture of the Tipo turbo diesel engines turbo and how far back on the engine it sits.
I found the compression ratio to be 18/1
Once again any help appreciated.

This would be just to get it in the hole and running, then i can work out where to fit everything.
