Hi!

I have a rather strange problem with my punto I was hoping that there was someone who had little knowledge or know-how.

I have recently, after switching to alloy wheels, witnessed the emergence of a constant rumble if speed limits around 60 km/h and faster and also after some time with rumbling, there will also be a high uniform metallic sound. Both are, in my judgment, from the front but can not judge whether it is from the right or left side.
I know it may be a wheel bearing but have tried a little rally on a winding road but the sound does not change and remains constant, so I'm unsure whether it really is a wheel bearing is wrong with ...
It should be added that if I make a hard braking increases the sound briefly and that my punto dripping with gear oil (have done it in a while) if it may have an impact on the problem.

Thanks in advance :)

Regards Mathias

hi. what wheels have you fitted?
after market or fiat alloy's

id be checking alloys are correct pcd etc if aftermarket.
does the noise go if you put the original front wheels back on to test?

After market alloys - The setup is a set of 15'' ET40 with 195/50 and it is with fitted with whobbe bolts but the sound doesnt change if I change back to std. steel wheels ('ve tried that out of frustration) :)

It feels kinda rough, quite hard to spin the wheel by hand and it cant spin at itself, even if I push all I can... A wheel bearing to be changed?

Oh I sure will take a look at that on mine but the sound doesnt seem to be the same :)

what iwouid do is take bottom bolt out of brake caliper ..flip it up out the way
turn hub then if its tight to turn then..bearing is retired.

if it does turn with ease..problem is caliper.

Thanks! (y)
I will try that when the weekend comes
