Hi has anyone had problems with a new engine rubber seal this is the one that goes on top of the engine bay from side to side in front of the lock. With my new one in place the engine lid won't close

The one on my car when I bought it had a cut away. The last one I bought from Mr. Fiat fit like a glove.
Maybe it depends on the type of handle/lock fitted?
My new one fits really nice and the lock catch just brushes past it but doesnt squash up.

on mine the lock passes the rubber when i try to close it the bonnet butts up against the rubber but it seems the rubber is so stiff it won't give.
Anyone have any tips on this? I got a new seal but it seems so firm that it’s pushing the engine lid / boot cover so far out that it’s not sitting down nicely and not allowing the lid to catch. I hate to start cutting the thing up.
