Hi, wondering if any one can help, i have a strange noise like a grind noise when changing gears 1st 2nd under high revs, i say high revs, no higher than 3 on rev counter and only when useing all available acceleration. Only notice it on 1st to 2nd up shift and to 3rd, no noise changing upto 4th n 5th under same revs, or when shifting down gear.

I was thinking gear box, but its not even a year old refurbished box, same with the clutch ( new 1) was both done at the same time, could it be a different issue? Or is it going back for a new clutch / gearbox....?

Thanks

If you can engage gears quietly with engine running but vehicle stopped clutch should be OK.
If gears grate on engaging and worse the faster you change gear most likely syncro mesh cones and hubs worn in gearbox, so either a terrible driver;) , or poorly reconditioned gearbox.
Check gearbox oil level first though, as can give same symptoms if low on oil, though if oil level correct when box fitted it would have to be a major leak!

Cool thank you
How terrible is terrible lol?

As in not when changing gears the rest of the time.
So using the clutch for no reason? Eg while in natural?
Nope not one for that, if that is what you meant, is it more likely just a bad rebuild? They have previous of do so, first one they sent to the garage was broke, so was the 2nd, this one generally quite but a bit jerky, garage said it woikd fade, but still does it, jolts a bit too which they also didnt seem concerned about either.

Here we are 8 months later and its failing.. So i wouldnt be shocked lol

Doesn't inspire confidence to me of garage or gearbox "specialist".
Fifty years ago we always rebuilt gearboxes in house at garages until the "specialists" undercut us all, we couldn't compete on price as they were simply rebuilding with s/h parts where we fitted new bits as necessary, including syncro rings, (their job is to match the speeds of the two gears that are engaging so they don't grate!)

It didnt me either, ive also noticed the noise is when i press the clutch at high revs ( over 2.5 k) not when changing gears, sorry fir miss leading, i have only noticed the noise today and juat went for a 2nd listen. So its when i engage thw clutch at reasonable revs lol

Sorry, without being in vehicle it's largely guess work, some inspired but not always ;) .

I know, just thought i wluld clarify my statement earlier when i said it was when changing gears, its just when i press the clutch past 2.5 revs, even in neutral with car stationary ( cant check 4th and 5 th not a road long enough in the UK to get to them speeds lol)

If the gears themselves engage easily when driving "normally" but you can make the noise when holding the clutch down stationary but with high revs, that would point to a clutch release bearing issue, as with clutch pedal down, gearbox/gears are not moving only the clutch mechanism.

Ok thank you, so a new clutch then... Alrdy... Thinking a new garage too...
