I have a 1.9 diesel 01 plate 110sx chiped up its started to play up with with gear box problems its hard to find 1st and reverse when the car is first used in the morning when it starts the clutch has had a slip and I haven't found any where that will do the job because of where the gear box is no garage will touch it or if they do its500 pound plus to sort and now its really noisey when driving and makes a sqweall sound when ya release the clutch up a hill the engine seems to have lost power now runs like a fiesta and I don't no where to start am now lost with it any help would be appreciated I live in essex if any one no,z where I can get a clutch and work done cheapish it would help thanks

Flying Clutchman, Brentwood has posted on this forum and is knowledgeable about Multi clutches. Worth a punt?

The problem with the diesel multis is they normally have a dual-mass flywheel fitted which needs changing with the clutch. flywheel and clutch costs something like £500 just for parts plus a day's hard labour. Anything under £700 in total is reasonable.

Due to not having them sort of funds there is a thread on here that shows u how to change a clutch over a couple of days is it that easy as the bloke makes out as can sorce clutch and get the flywheel done proply unless they can be done at the same time

It's not easy if you've never done this sort of thing before, but if you allow a realistic timescale to do it (a whole weekend) and have some decent tools you should be ok. Euro-car spares (woodford branch) should stock the proper parts.

Have done one on a old escort years ago gonna give that bloke a ring from brentwood see what he charges before I look in to it

Done mine twice , another guy done his 3 times :D , its doable if you have a bit of knowledge and someone on hand for the heavy bits.
Do a search i put a few posts up and another guy did a bit of a how to do on the subject, thing is i dont think the flywheel needs changing in every case its just a case of while its apart, and dont hae it done without having the input shaft seal replaced as this is the reason most multi boxes die.

I had my clutch changed 30000 miles ago, and on inspection the dual mass flywheel seemed ok. So it wasn't replaced. Same with my previous Multi. There have been no subsequent issues.

So it doesn't necessarily follow that the DMF must be replaced.

even if it judders on pull away or makes a screatch sound every now and again when ya release the clutch

That's usually the thrust bearing eating its way through the clutch 'fingers'.

Your DMF may actually be knackered of course. Mine have luckily been ok. Most modern diesels have the DMF problem, but the general advice isn't to replace them regardless.

It's just a pisser if you have to dismantle again after you've fitted a clutch. It's also a pisser to fork out real money for a flywheel you might not need!

So the thrust bearing can be done when the clutch is changed clutch fingers is a new thing to me unless I no of them in a diffrent language in motor talk a garge rekons they can skim my fly wheel and it will last 100.000 miles the car got 60 on it so more than it needs what is the best way to work out if I need a fly wheel on the cheap side though

Hi thanks for replys looked at this the other day u made it look easy is that the only tools u need there must be more to it than a few hex keys a mallat and breaker bar and sockets to release it I will be starting it over the weekend when I release the battrey from tray and lookin at other threads it starts faults but I can't keep 12v running through it is it ok to just dissconect

Just had a quote by my local motor factors to supply seals and clutch kit for 95 euro car parts and othe places want well over hundred pound just because this is cheap does it mean the clutch will be crap again or could this be a bargan I gonna be fitting it the weekend is there any certain size spanner or rachet over a 21ml or metric and what size hex keys will I need thanks
