The time has come to do something with my car, or in particular, my engine.

I was thinking of putting a 13b rotary into it, Has anyone tried it and can give some advice or shed some light on it ?
Would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Which Uno do you have? :)

How much do you intend to actually drive this car... if it is to be a 'daily driver' then I'd urge you to think about the fuel (and oil) consumption of a rotary.

Otherwise, no, I don't know of anyone who's done this to an Uno, so if you'd like to be the first, I'll be interested to see it (y)

a lot of retro style articles i have read, about rebuilt rx-7s, are about the original rotaries being ripped out and conventional, if a V8 can be such a thing:p, engine being dropped in

even the latest generation engines are a bit juicy

are they not too big

I'm feeling sorry for the original poster now... this wasn't the feedback he hoped for :(

I really wish there was someone who could post details of their rotary installation!

I don't know what it's like in the UK, but here, 'rotas' are fitted into old rear-wheel-drive Corolla models (the 'Rotarolla') by a certain class of car enthusiast, the type who likes to brush-paint their car in bright green. I've even seen (and heard) a bright green van powered by a rotary engine (Mazda Bongo/Ford Econovan, the type with the engine under the seats and the cab in front of the front wheels). The rotary must be ported out so that it doesn't idle smoothly - it's important to get just the right throbbing for your mating call on Saturday night drags. A pink sticker (slapped on the windscreen by the police to acknowledge the illegally-cut springs and >120dB exhaust) is also a fashion accessory. There's no denying the large amount of turbine-smooth power, but there's also no denying the large clouds of blue smoke and amazing noise levels that tends to accompany these :tosser: people in their parade for skanky bitches ;) Actually I've often wondered if I should pick myself up a rotary hoe - and I don't mean for the garden.

So with rotary engine conversions now having something of a bad name in NZ, it's something that an Uno enthusiast would be unlikely to do here - but technically that's no excuse for why it shouldn't work really well. The rotary engine is light and powerful (albeit not economical or durable).

On a refreshing note, there was a local racing Mini that was widened and fitted with a rotary engine. It was really nicely done (high standard of workmanship), handled and went really well, pretty noisy (but what racecar isn't?), competitive in its class... and I haven't seen it for years. I wonder what happened to it...

haha, thanks alex, wasn't quite the responses i was looking for, but a laugh none the less.

Well, I am getting a new shell, that i am hopefully going to turn into a project, and i rekon i am going to drop a rotary into it.

It's just another idea.
