:bang::bang::bang:

i was reading the leaflets that came in the letter & since april there's noww 14 bands of road tax depending on emissions my 53 1.9d dobby is rated at 208 g per something or other. what a nightmare

208 co2's is quite high in the scheme of things, a lot depends on the engine management and how hot the manufacturers were on acheiving a low rating at the time. In 2003 its didnt matter as there werent all these bands hence a high rating, in 2010 everything is setup lean.

Fiat doesn't try too hard for lean though.

The 1.3 Diesel in the 500 still comes in at over the 100g/km threshold, whereas the same engine in the GM Corsa, with the same bhp, falls below the 100 and incurs zero tax. 100,000 mile warranty now too ;)

Fiat's 1.6 Diesel is nothing special economy or C/O2 wise either.

I'm not quite sure what Fiat is tuning their engines for, but it isn't particularly economy or power. They do drive well though. The old 1.9 non-turbo was never great, either power or economy wise though. In it's day it was the run-out engine while Fiat introduced the 1.9 Turbo, which is both more powerful and slightly better on emissions.
