Hi all,

I've got a Fiat Punto made in 2003 I believe and have been driving it for over a year without a stereo. The wiring is all a bit of a mess so I've been putting it off, but now is the time to get it sorted.

I've bought two standard plugs with cables already fitted that should fit any new stereo, and I've wired the cables into blocks, where I intend to match the cables coming out of the stereo hole. I've been searching online for this information, but I just can't find anything specific to this, which seems odd as I'm sure there were thousands of these cars made. Anyway, the dilemma I have is how to match colours. The original colours are as follows,

In the power group there is:
black -
red and black -
red and white (which is attached to the red and black cable) -
yellow and green -
blue and green -
blue and white -
grey -

In the speaker group there is:
blue and red -
blue and yellow -
black and purple -
red and black -
black and white -
black and pink -
orange -
orange and black -

As you can see from the pictures I've connected them all up, but only the power group is a mildly informed guess. The speaker group is a complete guess. I really don't want to spend hours doing trial and error if I don't have to. Surely somewhere someone at Fiat wrote down what these colours referred to.

Has anyone come across these colours before and would you be able to enlighten me on what they are? Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi mate. Is yours the facelift (MK2B) or just the MK2?

They're a little bit different.

Are you trying to fit a standard stereo or an after-market one?

It's just the MK2 I think. I don't have any original documentation I'm afraid. I plan to fit a new standard stereo using those plugs once this wiring is complete.

What was wrong with the standard ISO connectors in the first place? :(
Or was it pre-butchered before you got to it?

Since he says its a 2003 - Assuming 03 plate, it will be a mk2 - Canbus
2003 - 53 plate had slight change iirc - and became Canbus'd for turn on
Not 100% cant remember my old mk2's colours

Pre butchered I'm afraid, someone made a right pigs ear of it.

Thanks! When you mean Yellow to Red, do you mean Red and Black? The car doesn't have a red on it's own, just two wires connected to each other, one red and black and the other red and white. By the way, any idea why they're connected like that?

Sorry to bump this thread but I didn't think this question warranted me making a new one.

Where can I get a little bit of wire from (and bullet connecters?) to wire my after market stereo to the cigarette lighter fuse?

Thank you.

This is the one I got http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251927211852

There are various sources for bullet connectors and lengths of wire. Personally I think you would be better cutting the bullet connector off and using a "Lego block" connector, preferably with bootlace ferrules, than using the cheap multi-purpose crimping pliers you get. Soldering and heat-shrink tubing would be good too.

My wire came from the door of a scrap Volvo V70, by chance there was a red wire of the correct length that had a bullet already attached.
