Hi,

I have this strange issue with my Multipla 1.6 ELX. The battery run completely flat last week. I used jumper cable to start the car. That worked out fine. But the Car keeps on revving the engine. Sounds like the start of a moto GP. I searched this forum but found mixed answers and non related to a Multipla.

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

I would be interested in what that fault is because I recently tried to test drive a 1.6 eleganza petrol from thames Fiat and I couldn't even get it out of their forecourt because they engine was over reving itself.
I suspect the common denominator is that the battery was flat and when they tried to recharge it, it's confused the ECU or blown it up completely.

Interesting!!

my jtd had this problem and it turned out to be the throttle potentiometer, and the battery was replaced at the same time by the garage.

Not sure as it was replaced by the garage, the engine just ran at maximum revs all the time.A diagnostic identified the throttle potentiometer....I wouldnt replace anything here without a diagnostic first as it might be something else.

Issue is fixed.
I removed the battery from the Pla, and charged it completely, returned it and hooked it up. Started and it runs as normal.

(y) Well done. Problem solved. Store that one away for future reference. What an odd fault!

we had this last year RAC man didnt know garage didnt and specialist Auto electrician did not know we found the answer on this site, one of the things is you MUST wait until the on board computer has completed ALL checks then start the car and not before, three weeks ago it happened again so i disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes re connect then started the car, solved it, hope this helps.
