Is this normal on bravo's? the revs seems slow to come down compared to other cars

Must be someone who knows

Or is this normal for the bravo, sluggish and dropping revs? i need to know urgently before taking it to service at FIAT.

Engine?

Which model have you got? My 1.6 is perfectly normal compared to the other cars I've driven in this respect.

Re: Engine?

Yes. I think I know what you mean. Mine seems to do that as well. 1.2 sx (2001). It's never bothered me.

Re: Re: Engine?

I dunno why it would bother someone - if the revs stay high then you get better power in each gear.

Well

It's a 1.8 HLX 16v
I agree it is better in that respect to faster but it's also wearing the clutch down 10x faster as well cause it's spinning fast.

Re: Well

HI ANDRIAN,

TRY TO DO THESE (I THING):-

1. ADJUST YOUR ACCELERATOR CABLE NEITHER TOO TAUT NOR TOO SLACK SO THAT NO FREE PLAY FOR THE ACCELERATOR CABLE. (CHECK ALSO THE CABLE CONDITION)
2.CHECK FOR THE BUTTERFLY MECHANISM, THE TROTTLE VALVE - WHEN DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR CABLE OR RELEASE IT, THERE IS NO SIGN OF STUCK.
3.CLEAN THE IDLE SELENOID VALVE FOR DIRT. PROBABLY DURING DECELERATION OR CHANGING GEAR, THE VALVE RETURN LATE TO IT SEAT.
4.CLEAN THE PCV VALVE (POSITIVE CRANK VENTILATION)
5.CHECK FOR LEAKAGE IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD

CHEERS

Not sure

about half of those things,i've cleaned the idle valve previously but made no difference,it's due in for a service so.....

Normal

i've never driven any other Bravo except my own HGT, but i used to own a Saxo 2, which I had from new.
This used to hold onto the revs for quite a while before they dropped - took it to the dealer and they said it was perfectly normal. It did it because the engine management system is programmed to do it.
The idea is that if your revving it over a certain amount of revs, you are probably going quite fast, so will change gear quickly and will want to keep the revs up to keep it in the power band and make a smoother gear change.

Emissions I think

I used to own an Alfa 33 with Injection (not Carbs). That was the most responsive engine I have ever had. I have since had tghre Fiats (more family) all have had engines with a more sluggish response. I put it down to the engine management system being more sophisticated and improving emissions. My Alfa had no cat.

I think a sluggish response if just normal now, emissions and all that. If it really bothers you try one of tghe aftermarket re-chipping companies.

Good luck

Hedgie

Re: Emissions I think

My old 99 Sei Sporting was the opposite of my Bravo, revs dropped straight away. It was much nippier from a standstill to 15mph, but less powerful after that.
