Hi Fiatowners

Irecently purchased a number plate reversing light by Verba AVRSNP2 , now I am a bit elderly so I got my local garage to fit it. picked it up oncompletion but when I got home it had stopped working so I rang and got an appointment to take it back, when I picked it up it seemed ok, parked the carin the garage, two days later erself wanted to go shopping, found that it wasnot working again, another visit to the garage got home its not working in allits now five visits..the garage is not unnaturally getting fed up with it.

Anyway having collected it once more and arranging for the unit to be removed I put the car in the garage and closed the door, then muttering to myself got into thecar turned on the ignition NOT the engine, and the audio device went mad(seeing the closed door!! ) I backed out and tried again with the engine turned off it worked fine, turned on the engine …nothing !!!

I then contacted the makers, who say its not wired to the reversing light correctly but could not say how it should be connected on a Fiat Punto 1.2 active sport 2004 .

Can any onehelp..my gararge is OK to try again if I can get an idea of how to connect it???

Many thanksfor reading all this

that's what I think has been done one to the light and one to earth ??

Normally these things are pretty simple to wire up. Usually only two wires to connect - positive from the reversing light feed and negative to earth; that way it switches on when the reversing light comes on, and off when the light goes off. I have fitted several to different cars over the years. Can't see how any decent garage can get that wrong... My advice would be try asking a different garage.
I would get the garage to demostrate it before you leave there. What I do is : with the car in an open space, turn on the ignition, but don't start the engine. Select reverse gear - you should hear the unit "chirp" telling you it is working. Now get someone to slowly walk towards the car from behind - the unit should "see" them and start beeping; the closer they get the more it beeps until you get a constant tone as they are about 2 feet away. Take it out of gear and the beeping stops... If it doesn't do that then either it's not wired up correctly or it's defective. BUT if it starts working at any time when the car isn't actually in reverse gear then it's definitely not wired up correctly - the only place it should ever get power from is the reversing light feed.

Thanks for that, but the garage says that's exactly what they have done,it seems to work fine until you start the engine ?

As pointed out above the kit only has 2 wires one to live and one to ground.

Rear lights on a punto go through the the body computer which looks for failed lights and bulbs so this maybe having an impact, also rear lights have a very poor earth connection in a wire to thin for the job.

My first suggestion would be to connect the unit direct to the body of the car giving it its own earth. If that still doesn't work you may be getting interference from the body computer but if it's working at the garage then not later on then it points to a problem with the wiring.

Connect the unit to its Own earth and look to clean up the earths and maybe upgrade them a little with a second wire.

Hi and thanks to you all for your interest.
OK I decided that I must investigate my self so got out the lining and made a new earth connection to the bumper fixing bolts. Still the problem persists!!
so I decided to bin it ..how ever I thought Ill just have a look at the innards of the controller, with the aid of a magnifier I saw that the siren plug connector was just pushed through the PC board but not soldered on!!!
It now works like a dream .such a good idea but not a very good QC dept
again my thanks to you all

well done.. (y)

Maybe they run out of 'solder.

i'd complain to the seller.. tbh. and report your finding's.
perhaps it may tempt them into giving there Qc crew a quick swift kick up the harse.
they surely deserve it if theyre sending broken tat out..
