Does anyone have any tips for replacing the starter pull cable? Mine has decided to break in half! It appears that I may need to pull up the carpet to access the rear of the tunnel and also the compartment which holds the starter and choke levers. It also looks like the cable exits the engine compartment then proceeds under the car, before re-entering the tunnel. Am I on the right track here?

Looks like a decent amount of work the pull the seats, carpet, seat belts, to replace this inexpensive part!!!

I tried to search but it proved fruitless in finding the answer to my question. Thanks for all the assistance.

That little panel is a 'standard' on all 500s. It is where the 'switch' for the heater flap is. Tilt the seats forward and the little hatch is very accessible

Thanks for this advice. I was hoping to avoid removing the seats and carpet to get at the panel. Tilting the seats should give me enough room, here's hoping!

Can anyone tell me how this clevis attaches to the starter? Small nut and bolt, cotter pin, some kind of specialty fastener?

My attachment went missing when the cable broke last week and I can't find a good picture of the connection online. If worse comes to worse, I'll just use some kind of cotter pin.

Thanks!

Like David (Toshi) I just use the appropriate sized split-pin, opened up just enough to prevent it falling out. If you put a lot of bend in the 'legs' of the splt-pin it is a real bugger trying to open it up if you ever have to take it off again

Hey everyone, I completed this task. The most difficult part of the procedure was inserting the split pin through the starter arm and clevis simultaneously. Also, working underneath the car as opposed as from the top, made things much easier.

Thanks for the help all.
