Will be a Mitsubishi Colt CZT :p

150bhp turbocharged 1.5 petrol, it looks different but IMO it looks the shiz in black and I cant find anyone says anything bad about them.... You know different?

Downsizing sucks but a good low miles 1 owner FSH example can be had from a dealer for just over 5grand. Such is life....

Anyone want to buy my GPS?

that colt is a smart forfour underneath. that isnt a bad thing really, but i think the cold bodywork makes it look awkward on the road, too tall and narrow for that small platform.

its a girls car inside and out. the interior is cheap and nifty plastic with a lack of space. the first time i sat in one i thought the interior was crap, and i owned a fiat bravo at the time! its one of those cars that is bigger on the outside than it is on the inside. the driving position is designed for a 17 year old girl.

Ffoxy you're a man, a man's man, you cant be seen in a colt mate. i'll feel sorry for you and i dont want to to do that. you deserve better.

the 1.5T is a mini mivec, so you know its going to be good to thrash. it even has an intercooler as standard (on the forfour, so i assume on colt too) which suggests the turbo actually produces some boost. i'm sure its a great engine, but imo its wasted on the colt.

i raced a forfour with the same engine and it beat my alfa easily. actually it would be more accurate to say it left me for dead. i dont know how fast they are but i doubt i'll ever own a car that fast tbh. i would assume the colt has similar performance.

there is a lot more to life than acceleration. at least your GPS doesn't make gay men ask for your number. please dont buy a colt.

That made me smile... no it made me laugh Jug... :p
You cant be serious, its a practical, cheap and fun runabout, Insurance will be £240, with urge to surprise and reaonable economy. The Smart Forfour is a girlie car I agree but underpinnings count for little these days, take for example the Jag being on the Mondeo platform (ok the Mondeo is a "mans car" but the CZT ticks almost all the boxes for me and my future driving needs. For me a car doesnt have to look Butch, the main thing for me is reliable, fun and cheap motoring (in that order) and the pose value of a car is pretty way down my priority list (I have a Punto FFS) But as usual your comments are absorbed. The other choice is a 1.5 Swift but my daughter has one! The Swift Sport isnt worth the extra dollar IMO.

Here is what is so appealing :-
Pitched against the £14,995 MG ZR 160 and the £13,595 Ford Fiesta ST, the £12,999 CZT completed the benchmark sprint in just 7.2 seconds with the ZR taking 7.4 seconds and the Fiesta trailing behind at 7.9 seconds.Furthermore, Mitsubishi’s star performer also squares up to significantly more expensive machines with much more power, like the £15,500 SEAT Ibiza Cupra (0-62 in 7.3 seconds) and the £15,215 Peugeot 206 GTI-180 (0-62 in 7.4 seconds). But it is not just class-leading acceleration that makes Mitsubishi’s newcomer stand out. Standard equipment is very generous at the £12,999 price tag with electric windows, electric mirrors, electronic stability control, ABS, four airbags, air conditioning, trip computer, leather steering wheel, 16-inch alloys and a body kit all part of the deal.
The Mitsubishi Colt CZT is also one of the very few cars in its class to offer an unlimited mileage warranty and service intervals of 12,000 miles; add to this best-in-class economy figures at 41.5mpg (combined cycle) and you have a car which is as good on the pocket as it is to drive.

All for just over £5,000 Little or no cost to change :)

a colt is still the wrong car even if we only consider your top 3 needs.

reliability isnt a problem. cheap motoing should be ok too because the fuel economy and tax band are both good.

fun is where i doubt your expectations will be met. reading reviews it seems the steering is very light and lacks feel. that is expected on a lady's shopping car, but it wont make fun much of an option imo. it isnt a driver's car. it definately wont handle as well as your GPS, and it wont be as easy or rewarding to drive it hard either.

actually of all the reviews i think parkers sum it up best;

"The high-performance version of the new Colt appears to tick all the right boxes: sporty looks, a turbo-charged engine and a modest price tag. But overall the package lacks the fun factor."

they also mention the crappy interior plastics.

you want fun, parkers say it isnt fun. thats a free warning for you from the experts. parkers made that comment because they know most of the people who are considering the colt are looking for a car that is fun to drive. parkers made their comment to save people from the disappointment of finding out the hard way.

imo you need to give the colt a good long test drive (at least 24hrs) before you commit yourself. a test drive should help you see the light.

I'll take a long test drive, would be an eejit not to. I have seen the steering noted as "nicely weighted" but I am used to vagueness... :p

On the Tiff Needell test  it was 1.4 seconds slower than the Fiesta ST so doesnt handle quite as well as the Festa but well enough for me I'm no boy racer lol!

Whats the obsession with Pose factor guys? I dont need a car to say anything about me I can do that for myself (y)

please dont get one?
im not going to repeat whats been said already... it is a girls car, even with that engine!

And just at your comment about jag sharing underpinnings with the Mondeo... That isn't a bad thing, Ford are one of the best chassis builders out there (mainstream anyway).

e.g Focus ST vs astra vxr nurburgring.. st down on power but out handles it in every way even though its heavier.

Fiesa ST vs corsa sri turbo... out handled by the ford every time.

A cars looks are subjective guys and I quite like these. I have a lack of taste but if it suits me and I get one (recession) it will be debt free motoring. So far the biggest drawbacks seem to be looks and interior plastics / underpinnings but I dont like Fords & Vauxhalls, too many about. Other options will be more expensive (Fiesta ST is £1500 more and for a higher miler...) plus its too boy racer-ish and small.

I really appreciate the views comments and feedback guys but it would be more of a driver to steer me away from them if anyone said, TRUTHFULLY, that they are unreliable, sluggish, costly to service and theft targets TBH.

Buying a cheap small-ish car that has all or most of the +'s I am looking for is really tough... any other educated suggestions for an alternative?

Needs to be 4 seats, small external dimensions, less than £5,500, 54 - 55 plate and economical in terms of fuel and reliability. That really cuts down the choice

they are none of those things. :)

oddly, GPS is the first thing that comes to mind :D

the honda jazz and nissan note and the suzuki swift are the only real alternatives to the colt that tick your boxes.

when i think of it like that i can see why you're looking at a colt.

Crap innit... I know I am making this an issue for myself due to my future business mileage needs dropping I can buy petrol, as it will always be cheaper than weasel now. The Note and Jazz while being really good cars make me :yuck: with their appearance (so there is some poseur in me )

Odd thing is both my kids like the CZT (Yeah yeah girls ...I know) and at least it will shift a bit unlike the Note and the Jazz... ;)

Funnily enough a Colt has been mentioned by the wife as a replacement for the (her) GP when we part company with it in about 12 months (when the warranty runs out). As a car they cant be any worse than the GP has been. Reliability and running costs are the primary concerns for me, something that lets the GP down badly (in my case 15 warranty repairs in 2 years and a projected £700 plus in service costs over 3 years). Not everyone looks for performance and values the fun-factor. The negatives that have been mentioned are not going to be issues to her or her needs and it will be on the shortlist.

What scares me more than anything about buying a Colt is the fact that the local Fiat dealer is also the local Mitsu` dealer

Jesus, please, any car but a Colt. I always laugh when i see thm, they are just like tall taxed boxes with an MOT certificate!

Womans car.... :p My local Mitsi dealer was excellent when I had my Carisma (another No Pose mobile) Very efficient at the Service dept and I had NO FAULTS with the car in 3 years and 75,000 miles. I will be doing the servicing on my next car myself, might even build a pit in the garage as we now have 4 cars at home, 3 will be out of warranty next March.

It would HAVE to be the CZT for me Sledge. Good prices to be fair...

Dont get me wrong mate.....its a good choice. Too many people buy cars based on what they think they need rather than what they actually need.

its very easy for a dealer to be excellent when they only have to sell and service your car. its faults that cause the fun and games.

that is partly why fiat dealers have such a bad rep. a mitsi dealer could be just as bad but with far fewer faults to deal with the average owner would never notice. the average fiat owner notices how good or bad their dealer is several times each year.

Yaris T-Sport? :)
again its a case of "yes if you have a ******".
although in all seriousness i think the yaris is the best suggestion so far. a corolla is far far better.

overall i think you should keep the GPS. remind me why you need to get rid of it again?

1) its out of warranty in March
2) i dont need to keep buying diesel as my business mileage is very much reduced
3) I like a change of car
4) I want a change of colour (my Mitsi was a similar colour)
5) Service / parts charges

Thats about it really in that order.
