General Replacement Engine vs New Head etc.

General Replacement Engine vs New Head etc.

Did you all know that psa know about this problem .....it turns out to be water driping of the expansion bottle from rain snow and condenstion driping on the timing belt cover and on the belt into tiny cracks on the belt surface and rusting the metal braids and snaping it......
and stops the injectors corroding in the head
they now do a drip tray mod under the tank that flows the water away..
but fiat do not:bang:

Jasonh131 where did you get this info from? I would of thought all of the people who have ended up with snapped cambelts would want to know about this. I am due to have my 5 year service which includes cambelt change and would want this modification carried out. It sounds like a recall job to me.

Having just had my engine replaced after the cambelt snapped prematurely, I think I'll be looking for one of these trays.

Can you order them on the internet and fit them yourself or do you need to contact a Peugeot or Citroen dealer?

With a bit of searching after it happened to me, I have seen what feels like a few dozen similar stories on various websites (eurovan2, citroen owners club, reviewcentre, the French forum-auto.com, honestjohn.co.uk) of Ulysse/C8/807 (usually diesels) cambelts failing between 55k and 75k miles, and in most cases a new engine is required because of the injectors, which will usually cost more than the value of the car.

VOSA have asked Fiat to investigate after a number of complaints from Ulysse owners who have had the problem, but I wouldn't hold my breathe for a recall.

So if you have 2003-2005 diesel Ulysse around 50k then get the cambelt changed.

And if anyone has found a foolproof way to get the injectors out, then please post it.

OH dear, another one in tonight! It is 15th September 2010... just received
this e-mail:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hello there I have taken your email off of a forum regarding Cam belt
failures on Citroen C8' s. Having read through quite a few others stories we
seem like a classic one. We bought the car a couple of years ago it is
currently 7 years old has 69k on the clock the engine being the 2.0 HDi. The
cam belt broke a few weeks ago and having taken it to our local Citroen
dealer they got Citroen UK to offer £1200 against the c£3k bill which
we agreed to go ahead with - now however they have announced they cannot get the injectors out therefore cannot change the belt so a new engine is required at a cost of c £5k.
The car is probably only worth £3k so we are now being forced to write it
off.
Please advise on what I can do to support any group action and any
suggestions on how we should pursue our own case."

Let's blow the lid on this.

Hi All

Don't be mislead by the claims that the water diverter plate is a cure all !!

I use the pichler hydraulic puller to remove seized injectors from fiat and psa motors and it makes no difference whatsoever if they have this diverter plate fitted or not.

i can go to a car with or without the plate and it makes no difference what they look like externally, either red rust or perfectl clean like new they can still have seized injectors.

Also contrary to comments on injector removal with the engine in the vehicle, this is possible my puller fits and pulls injectors without removing the engine using upto 20 tons of force!!!.

there are other options for repairs to these cars you just need the right tools.

Badgered Fiat HQ by e-mail & phone until I got a response-
initially they insisted that it be taken to a Fiat dealer...
with but I insisted that: it was already in pieces to discover extent of damage;
it would need rebuilding before transporting;
that nearest dealer was over an hour away over the mountains;
current garage trade membership, MOT station etc.& had taken photos of work at all stages.
They have agreed that I send them all invoices, details etc. & have given me an official case no.

Any further news from Fiat?

We have a Citroen C8 in a similar position.

If you have had premature cambelt (timing belt) failure with a
Citroen C8, Peugeot 807, Lancia Phedra or Fiat Ulysse
contact [email protected]. You are not alone.

Yes the problem is to do with the timing belt tensioner - the deflector is a side issue. The tensioner was changed in 2003 for early eurovans, and again in October 2006, when it went from a static type to a dynamic or moving type.

hi engines are made by peugoet the twin cam diesel 2.0 and 2.2 are fitted into some 806 all 807 and citroen c8 models injector siezed problem is a well known common design fault i am surprised by the previous replies even main dealers cannot get them out, combination of dissimilar metals steel injectors in alloy tubes .carbon from combustion chamber , water corrosion from windsreen running into injector trough and then prematurly rots the timing belt the only tool that gets them out without damage is made in austria and costs £2500 few people have these tools. best bet is engine from a breaker hear it running first and even then fit a new belt / bearing kit before use and every 50k after that. new engine is £5500 breakers varies £500 to £2000. hope this helps al

This saga continues i can still get them out (95%+ success) big problem for people is secondhand engines are running out and even if you get one you can end up with the same problem within days. did one only this week second hand engine fitted to cure timming belt breakage only to get misfire after two weeks. look on youtube for my videos and you will see and hear seized injectors coming out !!! with the engine still in the car

I recently had to replace my engine for a '97 EL. Found an engine on ebay, delivered with gearbox (needed to replace that too!) for £250. The exhaust valve had gone on the original.

Took a while to swop over, but has been running like a dream ever since.

Advised that it would be cheaper than tinkering with existing engine and it was! Just choose your replacement wisely!

I got mine from Spensbits in somerset, he's always online.
