Replace 2008 blue and me with 2nd generation one

Hi I have a 2008 grande punto with a 51818729 1st generation Blue and Me, the USB port has come out from the motherboard and I'm going to try solder it back on.
If this is unsuccessful then I might replace the whole unit. My question is this, can I replace it with a 2nd generation one or will I have to stick with the first generation one?

I would like to also as i want to do this with my bravo as my unit in the bravo is dead

There are a lot of posts on here about B&M dying, often as the result of a failed update. It seems a fragile system, without any good answers.

If the newer unit communicates with the body computer in the same way as the original, once fitted and a proxy alignment carried out, hopefully all should be well. Finding that answer may be impossible.
