Hi
I'm new to this forum, so sorry for any errors of rules etc. Also I am using Google translate. That explains sure my little strange language.
I wanted to show ongoing engine repair, which will be finished in a few days from now. I have yet to receive a few spare parts.

It's a Fiat Punto 1.1 S 1997 (engine 176B2000) with blown up engine.
Head gasket gone and two pistons gone (burnt hole in one) - "It is an engine for the dump" says all. But of interest and curiosity and for fun, I decided to try if I could save this engine.
Here it must be said that if this fails, then I have bought another complete engine from a scrap dealer.

I would keep the conrod and just change the piston crown. The will save the need to measure the crank and have new endshells ect. Good luck.
 
I changed two pistons (you'll see why when there are more pictures) - honed cylinders and new piston rings. Bearings seem alright so not changed. Head machined, valve grind and new gaskets.
 
I need to find the temperature switch for model with lamp (to-late-lamp) - can only find it to the gauge. Will try to ask FIAT today.
Does it have a partnumber?

The piston from cylinder 1 and 4 changed. 4 is clear and the number 1 on the way to the same problem, so it was also removed. After removing it no doubt - new piston.
Then I also remove the piston 2 and 3 They need only new rings and honing
 
Ready for head to go on after honed cylinders and 2 new pistons and new rings all around :



And head mounted in place. Tension after spec.

Nice work, it looks like you're doing a good job.
Crikey, a holed piston on a liquid cooled four stroke! I've holed a two stroke motorcycle piston before, but that was on an air cooled bike with no temperature gauge. I'd have thought the clouds of steam and temperature reading would have prompted a halt to proceedings before such catastrophic damage!
 
so many fiats are abused.... and i would guess that as john has bought a new on/off temp light sensor that this is from a punto without a temp gauge ;) It is pretty random for a normal FIRE engine to have done that though i will concede - but i have seen turbo converted FIRE blow holes in pistons when not fuelled properly
 
Yes it is the Punto S with only a lamp comming on if to hot - no gauge.
I entend to change that when i find a complet set of clocks with temp guage and rev counter from a SX model.
But first thing is to make it run
