trying to take the sump guard off, most bolts are easy enough, but the nut that holds the sump to the bolt, (labelled number two) is practically a circle and theres nothing I can do get the nut off. obviously I can saw the bolt between the sump and body to get it off, but where and how to I access to put a new bolt on ( the bolt labelled 2)????

Ohh right, so you don't need to necessarily undo the bolts on the back ? It may slide out with just the front ones undone?

No the sumpguard won't come off unless all 8 bolts are undone. I did this recently. The ones at the rear of the sumpguard are captive threads. I don't think these can be accessed from above (inside the car) so my advice would be to keep working at the nuts, use plenty lubricant, heat them, wire brush the threads etc but I still managed to shear one on mine :( good luck!

Ahh this is just what I feared! Spent 2 days solid on the buggers a couple of weeks back soaking them in wd40, I'll have another go next week and if it has to I'll just cut them and work a way of putting it back on!

Once the guard is removed, you will see that the bolts slot into an area in the body. If you get the nuts off ok, slide the bolts out of their housing (as stated the heads are 18mm square) then you can clean the threads up for re installation. Many other parts on the car use these style captive bolts including the central prop shaft mounting plate.

Can the bolts be reinserted from above?

New bolt looks like this:

"ports" for these bolts:

If it snaps, then be it, find new one, the bolt is simlar to the m8 bolts for fastening bumpers in fiat uno croma regata etc. maby fiat servce'll have them new.

Great info, thanks! Though does make me feel a bit dumb for struggling to free off the nuts on mine :ROFLMAO:

They are avialable on allegro.pl and in moto-shops here in Poland, but they are not original bolts unfortunatelly, they are softer, made of cheap material. I snapped few with my little finger:p while tightening the sumpguard, but maby I just have no sense for them, I often overtighten ..... naaah... they're just crap,{ maby ok for plastic bumper but not for sumpguard IMO} getting them made is a good idea(y)

@Bartpanda as always first class of info combine with photograps (y).

Surely bolts from link below will do the job, cut off the head and weld the nut on.
(warning - zinc plated)

edit: or ideally gring few mil off each head side to mach caviti size.
