Hey, looking for a steering wheel for my punto, although there are no GT3 wheels available anywhere at the mo, know a guy with a spare coupe as parts, and he has offered me his wheel, two q's

1) will it fit my punto? they are same size and look the same as a GT3 wheel, but are the splines and offset the same

2) how do I safely remove the airbag, without it going off in my face, would also like to throw away airbag all together as I don't want the thing going off in my face whilst I am driving the punto!!!!

dont know if it will fit, but as far as iam aware disconnect the battery. leave for 1/2 hour, then take airbag off. i dont think an airbag as ever gone off. think of the law suit if it did!!
btw, the airbag is going to be part of the mot soon, so it will need to be connected and working correctly.:)

yeah but how are they going to test it?? You can't run any sort of current into it, not even a voltmeter to test, just incase it does set it off. So once they come from production line they should never be touched.
The punto has no way of activating airbag anyway. Just hoping its not riveted to back of wheel centre as I won't be able to remove it then

anyone know how to remove airbag safely from centre part of wheel?
take battery off and leave for about 2 hours minimum to get rid of the current. you might need the right tools to remove the bag. no bag as ever gone off in the uk accidently. as part of the mot, the test will make sure the light comes on the dash on ignition and distinguishes after a few seconds. this proves the airbag is active.:)

what if the little light bulb blows, and the excess current sets the bag off?

I am terrified of the things, as one has gone off on me!! My mate has a new shape fiesta, idiot thought he would wire in a load of gauges and such to god knows what, rounded a bend, engine stalled (for no reason, must have been revving 3k?) airbags deployed(passenger aswell), thankfully I was way back on the seat rails and it didn't even touch me (however I think I wee'd a bit :( ) it got my mate though, burned his face and upper chest a little bit, and there is a bit under his right cheek (his right) that has been bruised looking ever since.
Its not big and its not clever, don't play with electrics kids! Or you'll have me to sort you out.

Thanks for the battery tip, will ask him to take battery off today!*

*I think it will be tommorrow when I remove.
