Technical Removing remote central locking system from car HELP!

Right, I have finally tracked down a Barchetta being broken for spares that has the factory fitted remote central locking. It has two square shaped central locking fobs.

Can someone please give me an idiots guide, as to what EXACTLY I need to take from the donor car, and where to find said parts on the car in order to enable my Barchetta to have remote central locking.

I'm not sure exactly the setup on the Barchetta, but if like the mk1 Punto's it'll be a yellow relay with a antenna wire coming out of it in the fuse box, if CANbus operated then you won't be able to transfer it without changing the body computer and engine ECU along with complete lock set.

For sure you will need the motors and the door catches from each of the doors, also the door wiring loom. The connection is in the foot well area by the speakers, think also you will need the relay that is under the dash on the passenger side. Others may be able to assist, it's a few years since I did mine.

Don't they come with central locking as standard then

No its an option as are electric mirrors.

Ours has the same sort of central locking as a Citroen 2CV...you can reach all the doors from the drivers seat

Unless youre wanting Fiat originality, I can help thinking you would be better with a brand new, after market CL kit! It has to be less hassle. However, if you are looking for originality - good luck - it's exactly the thing I would be doing. Steve

Steve extracting the parts from a retired Barchetta is the way to go, an after market kit is I think difficult to fit, the main wiring loom is ready to accept all the option parts, mirrors, fog lights and the central locking.

But the main reason I want to upgrade to the remote central locking is the lock feels so flimsy and you can see the door skin flex when you turn the key! So I know there isnt much I need to remove from the donor car..but the important question is what exactly.. I did actually have a look under the dash of the donor car and saw a yellow relay but there was no aerial wire on it?

Has the donor car got the battery disconnected? If so remove the yellow relay and see if RCL still works.

Is yours missing the yellow relay in the same place

Hi MEP thanks for the reply. I removed the relay from the donor car. the RCL stopped working off the fob. However when I went to put this relay in my car I noticed that it already had this relay! I swapped them over anyway to eliminate the possibility that my existing relay was broken and it still made no difference on my car. The part number on this relay is 46426365 Do these fobs have to be programmed in or something? Also the donor car in question is a 2005 model and it has a completely different interior courtesy lamp. Is there any chance that the later model barchettas did away with the relay with aerial and incorporate it in the courtesy light? I know some other Fiats have the receiver there..

I'm not terribly clued up on the Barchetta unfortunately, but from what you've said them you fitted the yellow relay from the donor vehicle the RCL remotes wouldn't operate your central locking?

Have you a pic of this relay and remotes you could post?

Yes thats right I fitted the relay from the donor car and the remote fobs wouldn't work, but the relay turned out to be exactly the same one fitted on the car anyway! How are these fobs coded to the car anyway?

Perhaps on the B then the relay is just for central locking operation and the remote function is somewhere else.

Do they have Canbus systems with a body computer

No CANBUS on the Barchetta.

When be bought out 2005 'B' it came with central locking (well driver & passenger door only) and I had to add remote separately. I used the then recommented Fiat accessory option (came with round fobs) and had to physically wire the remote control unit into the cars wiring. (META M320RC.

I suspect the same/similar will be installed on the car in question.

These were fitted as options to Seicentos, Bravos as well as others, on those it was just a case of plugging the relay into the socket and go. More than happy to try the kit on my Barch and Cinquecento for you to see if it works. Would be interested to buy too, if you want to sell.

The control unit is the yellow relay.
You need it + the fob's.
Then te locks and the door wiring. Everything else is in every barchetta supplied

If you want to use the original locks with cv and add an aftermarket remote control unit it can be done.
Just connect the door wiring, the locks.
remove the yellow relay!!
Then connect 2 wires from the door lock (into door wiring) to the remote control unit. I can look up which ones you need if you want.(do not cut but strip the wire and solder it one)
You will need to supply the unit with 12v, ground and connect the indicators to work on locking/opening.
