General remote central locking

General remote central locking

yes you can get a remote upgrade kit that simply replaces the central locking relay. its very easy to fit (literally 5 mins). there used to be plenty of them on ebay, but i just had a quick check and there are none listed at present.

you can also easily fit any universal central locking kit. the easiest way to fit one is to remove the glovebox, solder the wiring onto the pins of the central locking relay, refit the relay, and fit the receiver securely behind the glove box. you can use the glovebox light as a permanent power source, which is another reason its handy to fit it behind the glovebox. the only other issue is wiring up to the indicators so they flash when you lock/unlock. that is easily done if you route the wire through to behind the hazard warning switch. one wire can operate all indicators from the hazard switch.

you can get universal central locking kits very cheaply. you dont need the actuators or anything like that because you already have central locking, all you need is the remote upgrade.

Doesnt look like they are able to supply the blank key for a FIAT free, look at there list its a different one to what the actual locking bit will work with.

The free blanks we do are those listed on our eBay page, Please, advice which one you wish to receive or non. These are the only free blanks we have. Sounds like they might have other non free ones if you contact them. I dont know if you could use the key bit from your original ones.

The immobilizer transponder chip has to be stuck into our handheld transmitters (remote controls) (above the LED). (i.e. If your existing key has chip inside, some can transfer their chip into our remotes! and save 100’s £££) If you get the fiat key then it should work only if you can do the above, i'm not sure what that means it may mean cutting into your key if its sealed to get at the chip inside.

I think i'd be happy with a fob and keep my original key, yes having it as 1 unit is great (volvo s40) key is so nice to have in my pocket, but would you be able to say 100% you'd trust it at 3am when its cold dark and wet and your stuck in town.

depends what the fault is. the interior light houses the reciever for the remote central locking and alarm, so if that is faulty and you replace it, then you will have working remotes, but how do you know thats the fault?

Guy at the Fiat place said that was the problem now do I trust that or could it be more?

in that case, get to a scrapyard and get yourself an interior light assembley from a model with remote locking. it wont cost much, so its worth a shot. (y)

Thanks again this site is a fountain of knowledge and advice :)

hmmm. i am seriously considering this! the 1 tat you posted jug, i may have to purchase. is it really easy to fit?

Will this work fine on a 1.2 80SX? My drivers side lock is a bit sticky, and doesn't open the passenger door sometimes. Would this fix the problem?

edit: I just looked in my car, and can't find the relay switches in the glovebox. Do I have to remove the back of it? I could see two philips screws with metal washers on. Do I unbolt these to get to the relay?

Cheers

In my brava you open the glovebox and there are 2 plastic clips at the top. Spin them and you can take out the top of the glovebox. Then there are screws around the lip of the glove box and 2 at the back. Unscrew them and pull out the glovebox (Unclip the glovebox light wireing) You will see a yellow plastic box. It just pulls out!
