Anyone had any experience with either?
Grande Punto power increase from 130bhp up to 163bhp using tuning box, but just how good are they? I did have one on the BMW and there was a definite difference in power.
Never had a remap but have heard that, although they are more expensive & affect warranty, they are miles better than a box. Same power increase without the smoking.
What, if anything, would I need to upgrade to cope with the increased power?
Any info appreciated.

I'm a little dubious about the tuning boxes to be honest, heard about them being nothing more than a transister!

I can't get a remap for my grande(angel tuning does do one for mine but they ain't going nowhere near it with a soldering iron) so if u go the remap rout then go check the graphs on fiatforum!

If you go the other option then let us know how you get on with it!(y)

the analogue tuning boxes are what you want to stay away from if you can get a digital one then they are 100 times better as they change your power depending on how hard you drive it but its the cheaper and easier option than the remap of course ive never had a remap but ive had a tuning box on my skoda and wasnt that bad for the price you get them for :)

There's a lot of pish spoken about tuning boxes. Almost all of it originating from people who offer a different product. In the Fiat world it is especially bad. Lots of misinformation regarding tuning. To the point it's difficult to know who is telling the truth and who is telling their truth.

Look outside Fiat and there are lots and lots of happy people who have tuning boxes. Doesn't mean they are the best. It does mean however you should take advice cautiously and do your own research on the subject. ;)

in my opinion, get a remap, tuning boxes are set to one 'map' if you wish, where as a remap is suited to your car.

Yup, my Stilo JTD is currently still running a Red Dot racing remap. Not without it's issues.... but the car is brisk for a diesel with around 155bhp following remap (rated at 115 before, actually 120 when on the rollers).

The 'latest' generation tuning boxes seem in a better class. Pal of mine is running one a Golf GTI TDI 140 - it's a damn site quicker than my car anyway. He reports no issues what so ever (y)

The quest for power needs to be moderated by the sensible head.... so I waited until mine had run out of manufacturers warranty before starting to tweak it. If you're worried about warranty post remap or tuning box then the simple answer is the obvious one - don't do it!

I had already fitted uprated suspension on my Stilo, I would suggest that would be worth a look as would making sure (at the very least) that the brakes are in tip-top condition. I run standard Fiat discs and pads with no issues.
I don't have much experience of the GP, so someone who has one would be better placed to comment on the suspension - you may not need to do it on a GP. But I would consider the brakes first :idea3:
