Technical Remap Question

Hi,

I’m looking at a few remap companies and when I type my vehicle registration in I get differing results for standard power and torque. It’s a 2014 1.3 Multijet 4x4. Some sites are stating 74bhp & 190Nm and others show 78bhp & 140Nm. Does anyone know what the correct torque figure would be for my car. I believe it’s a Euro5 if that makes a difference?

I think you’re mixing the units up there.

The MJ engine used in the Panda from around 2012 on had 75PS, or 74hp. And had 190Nm or 140 lb/ft of torque.

When fitted to the 4x4 Cross version the same engine had 80PS, or 78HP. And yes, these were Euro 5 standard.

Mine is a 2018 version (4x4 MultiJet, non-Cross*). This later version of the engine has 95PS and I believe, 200Nm of torque (at 1500rpm), and is Euro 6 standard (so, ULEZ compliant).

I think this revised engine came out in 2016-17. It was dropped from UK sale in 2018, and I believe mine to be one of the last registered ones. Although mine isn’t a Cross 4x4, the V5 says it is (‘all’ the very last MJ 4x4s got registered as a Cross for some reason — but ‘all’ was only a tiny handful, making them pretty scarce ).

As an aside: The MJ engine — and the TwinAir too — was dropped in 2018 because the stricter ‘real world’ emissions testing regime (the WLTP tests) showed them both to have much higher emissions than had previously been thought. This is why the venerable old 1.2 petrol (the FIRE engine) that Fiat had hoped to kill off and replace with the award-winning TwinAir marvel actually came back as an engine option on later Pandas and 500s

You are correct, just checked and some are quoting Nm and some are lb/ft so will be referring to the same engine

The TwinAir wasn't dropped in 2018, it was slightly detuned to 80HP, and was available that year as Euro 6.

The TwinAir was dropped from production in all Panda models, except the 4x4 in mid-late 2017. Dealer stock kept it on sale a little longer. Production of the TwinAir 4x4 model stopped in early 2022 - and faltered a few times before then through engine supply issues. A final ‘special edition’ Panda 4x40 was produced in 2023, with 1,983 vehicles made — the original 4x4 was launched in 1983. These later cars were all left hand drive and not sold in the U.K.

Yes - I was specifically speaking about the U.K. (right hand drive) models. Diesel got a really bad press and this mislead folk into thinking diesel cars would be taxed out of existence so the market dried up. And the TwinAir too was seen as being overly thirsty and unreliable (mainly owing to poor quality servicing). The TwinAir were still listed as available into 2019 (but only in the 4x4) here but these were ‘old stock’. (Dealer sales brochure from 2019 - https://autocatalogarchive.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Fiat-Panda-2019-UK.pdf) I note you had the non-turbo versions in The Nederlands — they were never sold in Britain. But I think the sale of the petrol TwinAirs might have stopped across the EU too now?

Yes, it's the Pandina now, hybrid, with 3 cil "Firefly" engine, 70HP or so...
The non Turbo TwinAir had 60HP, bit slow to my taste, like the Turbo in Eco mode...
